Samsung Galaxy S2 Gets Official Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 ICS – OTA Update

Vodafone LogoSamsung Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 operating system are the now more than 70 days old and still there is no major mobile phone out with Android 4.0 by default or there is no phone with Android 4.0 upgrade readily available. Yesterday, it was HTC who announced at their Facebook page that they will be updating HTC Sensation line of phone with Ice Cream Sandwich in March end. Today it turned out to be Samsung’s turn as they have announced that their best selling Galaxy S II will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update on March 1, 2012 which is the concluding day of Mobile World Congress. The Android 4.0 update of Galaxy S II has no connection with MWC either.

Everyone knew that Galaxy S II is compatible to run Android 4.0 very smoothly on it and both over the air and manual updates vie Samsung KIES will be made available. From March 1, Android 4.0 update will be started rolling out and it depends on your country or region and the carrier when you receive the update. Insiders also claimed that with Galaxy S II ICS update, soon following the trend will be Galaxy Note phablet. Meanwhile Samsung much awaited device now which could be the company’s first phone with native Ice Cream Sandwich in the form of Galaxy S III was denied to be launched during the MWC 2012 event and it slated to be out in June 2012.

We will hear more about this update and will provide with the same on Android advices.

Update : We have just received reports that this firmware update via OTA is available only for the Vodafone S2 devices. Just check out your device’s update section if its available or not. Let us know via comments.
