The South Korean Giant, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab E with a 9.6-inch display and Wi-Fi only connectivity back in June 2015. Today, the brand has officially announced the smaller variant of the tablet called as Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0 in Taiwan. Unlike its predecessor, the new Galaxy Tab E 8.0 also supports 4G-LTE connectivity. The new tablet also comes with upgraded specifications and is also priced on the higher side when compared to the earlier launched Galaxy Tab E.
Coming to the specifications part, the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 features an 8-inch (1280×800 pixels) WXGA TFT display with pixel density of 189ppi. Under the hood, it packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with Adreno 306 GPU and 1.5GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage and also includes a microSD card slot for expansion upto 128GB. The company is also providing 100GB of OneDrive cloud storage for free.
On the photographic section, the tablet sports a 5MP rear camera with no LED flash support and a 2MP front shooter for video chats and selfie clicks. As earlier said, the device supports voice calling and includes connectivity options like 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GLONASS, and a microUSB 2.0 port with OTG support. The device sports similar design like its predecessor and also comes with pre-installed Microsoft Office apps for easy access to documents.
The company has also collaborated with several online content providers like LiTV to offer premium services for a limited time without any charges. Samsung’s “Kids Time Plus” app provides various educational and entertainment content for kids and also allows the parents to track and limit the usage of the tablet by the children. The tablet runs on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop based Samsung’s TouchWiz UI out of the box.
The device comes backed by a similar 5000mAh battery that the company claims can deliver upto 13 hours of internet usage and video playback. The dimensions of the tablet measure 212.1 x 126.1 x 8.9 mm weighs around and is currently listed in Classic White color variant. The Samsung Galaxy Tab E will currently roll-out only in Taiwan and is priced at TWD 8,990 (approx $268/Rs.18,000). As of now, there is no information about the launch of the tablet in other markets.
