Samsung Nexus S – Steps to Install ICS Android 4.0.1 Firmware

Procedure to Update Samsung Nexus S with Cyanogen MOD 9 ICS edition:

  • Before proceeding you need to first up Root Samsung Nexus S and then you need to download the Cyanogen MOD 9 Release for Nexus S in your computer along with the Google Apps.
  • After downloading these both files in your computer, you then need to connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable which you got at the time of purchase and then copy the CM9 as well as the Google Apps Zip file in your phone. Ensure that you are not placing this file deep into any of the folders.
  • After this, you need to turn Off the phone so that you can then enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Samsung Nexus S can be entered by “Pressing and holding Volume Up key and then press Power Button”.
  • Once you enter into the recovery mode, you will then need to select the option “install zip from sd card” after which you will see a list of files which are there in your phone.
  • As soon as you select the file which is named as “cm_crespo-ota-eng.koush.zip” and then after that select “gapps-ics-20111125-2.zip“, you will then need to wait for the upgrade process to get completed and then once it gets completed you will either land up again on the recovery mode screen or the phone will be restarted, just in case if the phone gets restarted you will then you will be directly on Ice cream sandwich 4.0 Android version.
  • Just in case if you land up in the recovery mode screen, you need to select the option of “++++ Go back ++++” to select the option of “reboot system now” for rebooting the phone. So, as soon as the phone is restarted you will see that the phone will be on the Cyanogen MOD 9 build of Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.
  • One the device is successfully updated, you will need to turn Off the phone and then you will have to enter into the recovery mode. In the recovery mode, select the options of “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe Cache partition” after which select the option of “reboot system now” as this will clear out all the data which is there in the cache.
