Samsung Galaxy Note is truly a revolutionary handset launched by Samsung Electronics. Its surprises one and all for the Galaxy Note owners as there is a OTA update of it even though the Galaxy Note is released not so long back. It’s not a major update to Android 4.0 as its expected by everyone but it’s a minor update so called schedule update. OTA update is always appreciated since these days and in most cases it provides features and enhancements to smartphones along with fixing bugs.
Engineers from Samsung have really take steps to enhance the Android smartphones functionalities on Galaxy Note and as a result they have come up with maintenance update. With this OTA update your Galaxy Note will be bug free although you didn’t any bugs by yourself and this device will be optimized for better usage of Galaxy Note functions. These update is right now being rolled out across Europe and it’s available for all the devices. This update version doesn’t require connection via KIES. Coming to the home screen Samsung has added note like Swipe screen to unlock at the bottom of the screen which is not spotted in the earlier existing versions. Left screenshot below is the earlier existing one and the right side is the updated one. There is also slight change in the visual information on how to get screen unlocked.

Also reported from the users is the date display change in Calendar for the users in South Korea. There is option of screen brightness for web browsing. It’s just the same screen brightness which is used in all other apps. With these screen brightness settings you can optimize accordingly and save battery power.
Last but not the least; Samsung has modified Android OS in accordance to add numbers while using the keyboard on Galaxy Note. Galaxy Note being a large size Android phone, it has ample space left and thereby with this update you will see number keys on the top of the letter keys.
Updating Galaxy Note via OTA update
Samsung Galaxy Note users of Europe will receive an update notification on their mobile phone. If you have received such notifications, then full it from your notification bar and you will be provided with the two option of Install now or Install Later. Install Now will provide update instantaneously to it and Install later will remind you of the OTA update twice or thrice a day. You should make sure that before you proceed with the firmware update whatever present on your phone will be lost i.e., Contacts, SMS, call logs, phone memory storage files will be deleted and so we advise you to take backup of it. You can take the help of following apps to do it –
Text messages – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Phone Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Pictures, Music, Videos, Files etc.– Copy to internal / External SD Card,
Internet & MMS Settings – Backup all the settings from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
Checking via Manual Update
If you have not received a notification from Samsung then you can also check out whether updates are available for you or not. To check on your phone anytime you need to go your home screen and hit Menu > Settings > About Phone > System update and then finally hit click on Update Android. You should have an active internet connection your handset to proceed with the update. The update file is of around 70 MB and we advise use to update it via Wi-Fi and not to use your carrier data plans. When you are ready click on Update Android and your updates will be automatically installed, you just need to follow the on screen instructions.
How to Check Software Version on your Phone
To check the software version on your handset after update go to Home screen tap on Menu > Settings > About Phone and check the built number along with the software number will be shown.
Galaxy Note has been sold like hot cakes and this update will have a lot of question to the users mind. As of now the update is for the European users and it might be released periodically or may not be available for some users.
