Sharp has launched the bezel-less Aquos Crystal 2 smartphone in Japan. It is the successor to the Sharp AQUOS Crystal, a bezel-less handset offered by Sprint and Boost Mobile. The phone will launch on Softbank in Japan in mid-July.
The Sharp AQUOS Crystal 2 features a 5.2-inch display. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8926 processor coupled with 2 GB of RAM. It comes with 16 GB of internal memory which is not expandable via microSD card. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out of the box.
Due to bezel-less design on the top, the front-facing cameras along with couple of sensors are placed below the display and the earpiece speaker has been replaced with bone conducting technology, much like its predecessor.It is equipped with a 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash. On the front, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calling. The smartphone weighs 154 grams and is 11 mm thick. It is also water and dust resistant.
On the connectivity front, the Sharp AQUOS Crystal 2 has 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and NFC. It packs in a 2,030 mAh battery under the hood.The bezel-less smartphone will be available in white, black, pink and turquoise colour variants around end of July in Japan. There is no information on the pricing as well as global roll out yet.
