Skype has delivered its update to the version 4.7as it promised long back in the month of July last year. This updates seems to be a major update as Skype for android allows background running of the app with no impact on the battery life as per the claim of the company. Well if it is the case then it’s worthy to wait for an update for such a long period of time.
Well this update is a major one but however the instant notifications for the group chat messages have been temporarily disabled now in order for better power management. However there is still an option of sync group messages so that you can always be updated without missing a thing, Go to Settings > Notifications > check the “Sync group messages in the background” box, but you need to compromise on your battery life.
On the Skype blog it was mentioned that they are introducing aggressive battery saving with this update and it will allow the Skype users to run the app without affecting the life of the battery much. They also mentioned that it was a challenge for them because for this they had to transform the way Skype technology actually works. It was also noted that the processes is still undergoing and it has been not completed yet and said that they are at a stage where the Skype users can enjoy the fruits of their labor.
There are few other features and other small tweaks
• Workaround for the KitKat bug which caused a runaway process when the camera was synced in the background.
• Fix for audio and video calling on tablets that do not have Bluetooth.
• Now lists your Windows Live Messenger contacts in the Skype (default) view, not just the All contacts view.
The update has started rolling in the Play store and will be available for other Kindle Fire family of tablets later this month. So what are you waiting for? Hit the link here and get your Skype updated. Stay tuned for more information and update.
