Sphero is an interesting robot ball device that can be controlled using your Android/iOS smartphone. Well, it looks just like a ball but it’s much smarter.
The Sphero ball is made of a polycarbonate shell and consists of a Bluetooth radio which is used to receive and send signals to your smartphones. There is an LED light on the Sphero ball which can be lit up as needed using the smartphone app where one can pick any color/intensity from the color palette.
The user can use Sphero to move around his room, follow a predefined path or even automaticaly navigate a particular distance through barriers and other path blockways. The whole control of the Sphero ball is in your hands, the smartphone app is really extensive and has multiple options. You can make the ball spin or turn, however you wish.
Also, to give the live experience and feel, Augmented reality based camera overlay option is available. Which means the app would open up a preview of the camera right inside and once you point your phone to the area where Sphero is running around, you can touch on real objects in your camera and Sphero would move there however you ask it to. Much better than using co-ordinate graphs or a blank screen to define movements! With the Android API being let, there are multiple tweaks that have come out for Sphero. Coders and Sphero fans around the world have used it to make Sphero their daily fun accessory and even to let them notify of new Twitter notifications.
Sphero comes with a wirefree induction based cradle for charging and lasts upto an hour of usage until its battery drains out. Considering its shape and the perfect ball-like figure its manufacturers made it into, battery life is indeed impressive. Also, there are a lot of Sphero exclusive apps which are available in the Google Play Store.
