The huge HTC Device just got itself updated to Gingerbread today. Sprint has announced that all their Evo Shift Users can update their phone’s firmware to Android’s latest Gingerbread version 2.3.3. The Nexus S 4G from Sprint was the first 4G device to run Gingerbread and now it is followed by the EVO Shift, both from the same operator, Sprint.
HTC’s Sense UI however does not get updated in this process and there’s basically the same version running of Sense running on your phone post the Gingerbread update too!
There’s tonne of features on Gingerbread over Froyo including new iconography throughout the UI including Notification Bar icons. The whole User Interface has been simplified and end of list animation has also been added, which provides an overall nice feel to it while you’re at it.
There’s lots of stability and battery improvements as well and that should be much needed with 4G running always.
If you own a Evo 4G, make sure you’ve backed up your device and here’s how you could get Gingerbread right away :
-> Menu/App Drawer-> Settings -> System Updates -> HTC Software Update -> Check Now
And then there isn’t much to do, it shows you the update and once you start with it getting downloaded, it’s all pretty easy. It installs by itself and restarts to welcome you with a fresh taste of Gingerbread!
You can instantly notice the new batter icon on the top along with the battery status on the notifications bar. Looks much better than the old one! If your phone already runs Gingerbread on a custom ROM, you might consider installing the original version as well.
