After the several big brands made their entry (e.g. LG Lifeband Touch) into the wearable stuff, Toshiba has put its step in with the Toshiba Move, the fitness activity tracker band with the Japanese telecom operator NTT Docomo today, and the band is already available for sale in Japan. Priced at 9576 Yen ($95), the Move band is pretty good at features but does nothing very much special when compared to the other large number of activity trackers available already in the market.
The Move Band integrates the Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity, and it synchronizes with a dedicated smartphone app called WM (the app is available for both Android and iOS users on their respective app stores), and it can track the number of steps walked, the distance traveled and the calories burned by the user, sleep time and more. “The wearable device market is expanding rapidly. Toshiba will continue to promote development work to secure a continuing lead in various types of sensors, data processing and cloud connectivity,” Toshiba noted in a press release.
One of the advantages apart from the set of features provided by Move Band, is that it is waterproof and thus you won’t have to worry about covering it when it’s a slight shower of rain outside. The compatibility of the band is not the widest, because there is a list provided by the company and those are the only smartphones which are compatible to sync with it, although with Android, we felt that any device with Android 4.1 or later could run the app and sync the band. The smartphone with the app would be acting as a hub for the connection to the cloud and uploading to a range of services, making it possible to make it a better tool for healthcare management. The Toshiba Move is going to be available in light green and navy blue colors.
