We got our hands-on on the UMI Hammer, which the company called as the toughest smartphone in the world. The device sports a 5-inch HD display that is protected by dual layers of Gorilla Glass. It also has an aviation grade Aluminium alloy frame around the device. So we decided to do some extreme durability test on this device along with the basic scratch and drop tests.
First we started with the scratch test with Knife and Keys, which the device passed out clean without any scratches. Then we went ahead and used the Hammer smartphone as the chopping board to cut the apple. Ever after all this we haven’t found any noticeable scratches.
Secondly, we have done the drop test from different heights with different angles, from three feet height it came out positive but with five feet height the back cover opened up and battery poped out of the handset. There were minor scratches found on the device as it was a hard surfaced ground.
In the third stage, we started dribbling the basketball on the smartphone placed on the same hard surfaced ground. After doing it for around 20 times, still we haven’t found any major issues with the smartphone.
Now we decided to test the durability of the UMI Hammer in the real life incidents. So we dropped the device while riding a bike, and drove a car on that phone, with that finally there are some damages on the device. The glass on the display and the rear camera module has been shattered, but surprisingly the display and camera still works.
As cricket is so popular in India, we tried to play the same but we decided to use the smartphone instead of the ball. The impact of the device with the bat was on the bottom, the bottom of the display is teared up and apart from that the display and camera are still working.
Just to make sure that the device should no longer survive, we have blasted the device and to our expectations the phone gone dead. Even the form factor of the device has changed. The Aluminium frame around the device has got affected. With all this tests, we aren’t disappointed to call UMI Hammer as the world’s toughest smartphone.
