UMI recently unveiled the new UMI X2S Android smartphone although they haven’t announced it officially, and this one is the first smartphone that they call it the first true octa-core processor device, being powered by the MediaTek’s MT6592 chipset with 8 cores clocking at 1.5 GHz speed. This new smartphone was showcased at the 2013 Hong Kong Electronics Fair held in Hong Kong from October 13th to 16th 2013.
The reason why they call it a true octa-core device, is that all the eight cores run at the same time, unlike the one in the Galaxy Note 3 where you can see four cores working together. This is the successor to the UMI X2 smartphone and there is a bit of difference in the design of both the smartphones, where you get to see a squarish home button on the X2S, while the X2 looks more like the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone.
There is 2GB of RAM included with the processor, and the internal storage that the device has got, is 32GB. Camera wise, it’s something good to see as UMI has included a 13-megapixel shooter with the lens from Sony. It’s a 5-inch Full HD screen with the screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The performance of these devices is expected to be matching those of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro devices because of the eight Cortex A7 cores. The X2S comes with the NFC connectivity.
This Chinese smartphone is expected to be available for the price of around RMB 1,499 ($245) to RMB 1,999 ($327) and as always, this won’t be available globally. For the sub-$400 pricing, the X2S looks excellent and this can see itself getting into the Indian markets through one of the sellers who could re-brand it in the near future.
