Quick Pre Requisites:
- Create a backup of all the data present in your device manually with the help of below mentioned steps and not with the KIES or any other tools.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Make sure that your device has 50% battery life and enable USB Debugging Mode which can be enabled from the Settings.

Procedure to Unlock boot loader and Root Nexus 6:
Unlock the Boot loader:
- Download the Nexus Root Toolkit android package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, you need to unzip the same and open the Toolkit app.
- After this you need to connect your device to the computer using original USB cable and once all the drivers are installed successfully you need to click on “Unlock” for unlocking the boot loader.
- You can refer to the above mentioned image for the plethora of options from which you will get to see once the app is opened.
Root Nexus 6:
- Now, once you have unlocked the boot loader from the above mentioned step, you now need to click on “Root“ for rooting the device. Once done, you now need to disconnect the device from computer.
