How to Update Galaxy S Blaze 4G with Jellybean Cyanogen Mod 10 Firmware

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G smartphone users can now benefit from the latest Cyanogen Mod 10 firmware, it was the last time when we bought the news on the ICS firmware push by SAMSUNG and just in case if you haven’t received it and has already rooted the device, you can now make the most by installing the Cyanogen mod 10 firmware which in fact ropes in the latest Jellybean 4.1.1 firmware update. Full credits to the XDA Senior Member dr4stic for coming out with this unofficial version of CyanogenMod10 firmware. Though there is no ETA on by when there will be an Official update of Jellybean by Samsung, you can make use of this till then. There are few bugs in this firmware related to the Camera and Music player but it will be fixed in the coming versions.

For applying this update, you will need to root your device, to check on whether your device is not rooted, download the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store to check the same. If your phone is rooted, download the ROM Manager app from the Google PLAY Store to flash the recovery in your device.

Create a backup of all the data present in your device as in the process of firmware update, the data might just get lost. Please note that you are creating the data backup only with the help of below mentioned step and not with the KIES or KIES mini tool as it doesn’t recognize the CM 9 or CM 10 custom ROM firmwares.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging, ensure that the USB debugging option is ticked. Disable / uninstall all the antivirus tools present in your device as it may interrupt the process of firmware update.

Procedure to Update Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G with Cyanogen mod 10 Firmware:

  • Once the two files are placed, disconnect the device and turn off your phone so that it can be entered in the recovery mode. Recovery mode in Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, turn ON your device.
  • In recovery mode, select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” and then select “install zip from sd card”> > “choose zip from internal sd card” to select the Cyanogen Mod 10 Firmware Package and Google Apps Package placed in your device.
  • Please note that it will take around 4 -5 minutes for applying this update. Once the update is applied, select “Go back” and “reboot system now” with the help of Volume Up / Down Keys and Power button. Also, be informed that it may take longer time than expected for rebooting the device as in the first reboot it will be finalizing all the data requiring for the startup.

Note: If the device gets into the boot loop sequence or say gets stuck in the welcome screen, just re insert the battery and re follow the above instructions so as to again follow the above mentioned instructions.
