How To Update Motorola Defy to Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware

Procedure to update Motorola Defy to Gingerbread 2.3.4:

  • So, before we proceed you will have to first up root the phone using the Super One click application from here, just in case if you are unable to root then do let us know in the comments section then we will guide you on the same.
  • Once you are done with this, you will have to remove the USB cable and then ensure that the USB Debugging is turned On in the phone. The USB debugging can be turned ON from the path of “Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging”. Ensure that this option is ticked.

  • After this simply turn Off the phone as you will have to enter your phone in the Stock Recovery mode. Motorola Defy can be turned On in the recovery mode by powering the phone with Volume Down pressed after which you need to choose the options “Wipe data/Factory reset” and “Wipe cache” after which all the cache which is stored in the phone gets cleared.
  • Now, after this you will now have to reboot from the stock recovery with the Volume up pressed to enter into the boot loader and then you need to open the RSD Lite and then flash the Nordic file.
  • After this you will have to download the Gingerbread 2.3.5 release Zip file, Google Apps,  to your computer after which all you need to is to just move this file in your phone and ensure that you are not placing this file deep inside the sub folders.
  • Now once you have rooted the phone successfully, you will now have to connect your phone with your computer using the USB cable which you have got at the time of purchase. As soon as you connect the phone, you will now have to copy these downloaded zip files of Gingerbread 2.3.5, Google Apps, which you have downloaded from the above link.
  • After this you will have to check whether the USB debugging is till turned ON, if not then  enable the same and after that you will have to download and install an application named “2ndInit Recovery Installer” which is there in then Android Market Place.

  • Now, up next after this you will have to boot the phone in the recovery mode and need to select the “Custom Recovery” and then choose the options like “Wipe cache partition” then “Wipe data/factory reset” after which just select the option of “install Zip from SD card” and then “choose zip from sdcard” and select the file named “CM_MotorolaDEFY_2.3.5.zip” which you have downloaded in the above steps and placed the same in the phone.
  • After flashing with the firmware zip file, you will also need to choose the Google Apps Zip file which you have placed in your phone.

  • So, once the installation is finished, you now need to select the option of +++++Go Back++++ and then choose the option of “Reboot System Now” to restart the phone. There you go, you have now successfully updated the Motorola Defy to the latest version of Gingerbread 2.3.4 version.
