How to Update Motorola Droid 2 with Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Custom ROM Firmware

Procedure to Install Cyanogen Mod 7.1 Custom ROM in Motorola Droid 2:

There are two methods with which you can install this custom ROM in your phone, one is by using the Recovery mode and another one is via the ROM Manager method. It’s recommended to first apply the Cyanogen MOD 7.1 firmware using the Recovery method, if it fails to get updated then you need to try the ROM Manager method.

Recovery Method:

  • Assuming that you have fulfilled all the essential pre Requisites mentioned above, now you need to connect the phone to the computer and copy the Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Firmware as well as Google Apps in your phone’s SD Card.
  • Now, you need to boot the device in the Clock Work Mod Recovery . You can boot the device into the Clockwork Mod Recovery by using the side volume buttons and press the power or trackball to select.
  • You can also select the option of “backup & restore” to create the backup of current installation on your Motorola Droid 2.
  • Once you are done with the backing up the current installation, select the option of “Wipe data / Factory Reset” and “Wipe cache partition” to clear all the cache files if any present in your phone.
  • After this you will have to select the option of “Install Zip from SD CARD” and “Choose zip from sd card” to select the Cyanogen MOD 7.1 Custom ROM followed by the Google Apps zip file which you placed in the device.
  • Just in case if there is any error then you need to repeat the last step. Once the files are installed successfully, you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select the option of “Reboot System Now” option to restart the phone

ROM Manager Method:

Just in case if you were unable to update with the above method, you now need to proceed to download and install the ROM Manager application in your phone.

  • After this, you need to select the option of “Flash Clock Work Mod Recovery” to update the latest version.
  • Now, you need to select the “Download ROM” option and from the main menu from ROM Manager to select CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of Cyanogen Mod from the menu.
  • After selecting the Cyanogen MOD Rom you need to select Google Apps. Once you select the files and the process gets completed, you can opt for selecting Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache.
  • Just in case if the super user prompts for the root permissions check to Remember and then Allow.
  • Motorola Droid 2 will be rebooting again in the recovery mode where you need to select the option of “Wipe data / Factory Reset” and “Wipe cache partition” to clear all the cache files if any present in your phone.
  • Once the files are installed successfully, you need to select “++++ Go Back ++++” and select the option of “Reboot System Now” option to restart the phone
