Procedure to Update ICS Android 4.0 Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware in Xoom:
- Download the ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware Package from here to your computer and then connect the device to the computer using the USB cable.
- Enable the USB Debugging Mode from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” as shown in the below screen capture.
- After this turn Off the device so as to enter Motorola Xoom in the recovery mode.
- The recovery mode can be entered by Holding the Volume Down button when the Motorola Logo is shown when the device is booted normally.
- After this, in the recovery mode itself, you will find an option of “Flash Zip from SD Card”. Select “Choose Zip from sd card” to select the ICS zip file which you have placed in your Motorola Xoom TABLET.
- Once you install the same, again in the recovery mode you will have to select “Flash Zip from SD Card” > “Choose Zip from sd card” to select the Google Apps Zip file which you have placed in your device.
Fast Boot METHOD (For users who couldn’t update with the above method
- First up you need to Boot your Motorola Xoom into recovery & perform a Nandroid backup.
- After this, you need to Copy the images (system.img and boot.img) to where the fastboot.exe is located and then you need to take out the external SD Card to turn Off the phone.
- Now, boot your device into the boot loader mode by Pressing the Power ON button followed by which you need to press the Volume + button till you see the boot loader screen.
- Open command prompt. (navigate to where the fastboot.exe, usually “C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\fastboot.exe”, the right click > Open command windows here which are mentioned below
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
So there you go you have now successfully updated your Motorola Xoom with the latest firmwae of ICS Android 4.0.3 via fastboot mode method. Just in case still if you are facing issues then you need to check with the fastboot as well as the USB debugging mode as the possibilities are very rare that you will not be able to update via above method.
