Android 4.2.2 JDQ39 Jelly Bean OTA Firmware for Nexus 7 has arrived and we will be checking out on how you can apply the same. Please note that this is the Official firmware update released by Google and this update has arrived in a bunch of other devices which are Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 device. So, though Google has released this update, this still hasn’t been rolled out to all the devices across the Globe. So, if you too haven’t got this update, you can manually apply this firmware update with the help of Manual steps which we have mentioned below.
This new update of Jellybean 4.2.2 fixes all the issues related to the force close errors and also it addresses the issues related to the Camera and also includes other minor bug fixes of which Change Log is not available yet. Please note that this update should only be applied to the unlocked devices of Nexus 7.
Note: Applying this firmware update will neither root your Nexus 7 nor will void the warranty in any manner. Also, this is the Official firmware released by Google and not the custom ROM / Beta firmware.
Essential Pre Requisites:
- All the data in your Nexus 7 should be backed up ONLY with the help of below mentioned manual steps and not with the ROM Manager as it may not help you to restore the image.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging and also make sure that your device is left with the minimum of 40% or the device will get turned off in the middle of customizing process. Ensure that your device is not rooted.

Procedure to Update Nexus 7 with Jellybean 4.2.2 JDQ39 Firmware:
- Download JDQ39 Jellybean 4.2.2 Firmware Package from here to your computer and place the same in your Nexus 7 device by connecting your tablet to the computer with the original USB cable.
- Disconnect the device and turn off you’re your Nexus 7 device so that it can be entered in the Boot loader mode.
- Turn ON the tablet while pressing and holding Volume Up and Power buttons together until the Fastboot menu and START icon appear on top of the screen. An exclamation mark should pop-up on the screen. Now, hold Volume Up and Power buttons together until the device enters the Recovery Mode menu.
- In recovery mode, select “update from zip file” to select the zip file which you have placed in your device. It will take around 3 -4 minutes for applying the update and once it’s done, you need to select “reboot system now” for rebooting the device.
- Now head over to the path “Settings > About Tablet” to check the firmware version which will read as Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware.
Note: If your Nexus 7 refuses to boot up, then you will need to long press on the Power button for rebooting the device in the normal mode or in the recovery mode for repeating the whole above mentioned process.
