Guide to Update Epic 4G with Galaxy S3 Themed Custom ROM firmware:
You need to ensure that you are on the EL 29 firmware package before you apply this custom ROM Firmware in your Epic 4G.
- Download Odin & Epic 4G EL26 Firmware package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, open Odin in your computer and turn off your phone so that it can be then entered in the download mode.
- Press Volume Down button + Power button and then you will get a warning message when you need to press the Volume Up button to enter the device in the download mode.
- Once the device enters in the download mode, connect your phone to computer and once you connect, you will see the ID : COM section will turn Yellow indicating that all the drivers have been successfully installed.
Note: Just in case the ID : COM section doesn’t turn Yellow, you need to follow the below mentioned steps.
- Install the USB Drivers in your computer & Go to the Path “Settings > Wireless & Network > USB Settings” &
- Ensure that “Samsung KIES” option is ticked before connecting the phone to the computer.
- Now, click on “PDA” to select “StockCWM-EL26.tar.md5”. Once selected, click on “Start” for starting the process of updating. Once the device is updated successfully, it will be rebooted and once you see the home screen, disconnect the device from the computer.
Once you see the home screen, disconnect the device from computer and proceed to the steps mentioned in the next step.
Procedure to Install S3 Custom ROM Firmware in Epic 4G:
- Download Galaxy S III Custom ROM Firmware for Epic 4G from here to your computer. Once downloaded, connect your phone to computer and place this downloaded Zip file in your device’s SD Card.
- Disconnect the device and turn off the same so as to get into the recovery mode. The recovery mode in Epic 4G can be entered by pressing the Volume Up + power button. Once the device is entered in the recovery mode, you now need to select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition”.
- Select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and choose Galaxy S III custom ROM firmware Zip package which you have placed in your device. Once the file is selected, it will take around 5 – 6 minutes to apply this update.
- As soon as this update is finished, the device will again land up in the recovery mode screen. Select “++++ Go Back ++++” and then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.
Tip: if the device doesn’t boot up even after 5 – 6 minutes, you need to restart the device by re inserting the battery.
