Pre Requisites:
- All the data present in your device should be backed up so as to ensure that all the data in your phone is safe and secured as there is a possibility that the data may get lost or corrupted. Only make use of below mentioned steps to back up the data as after updating the KIES won’t be recognizing the phone as CM9 is the custom ROM firmware.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
- Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
- Irrespective of the current firmware you are ON, you need to ensure that you have rooted the same as this firmware can only be applied on the rooted firmwares.

Procedure to Update Cyanogen Mod 9 Firmware in your Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830:
- Download Cyanogen MOD 9 Package (Download File named as Nightly for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 (3 Mar 2012) ) from here to your computer. Once you download the same, you need to connect the device to computer with the help of USB Cable.
- Place the downloaded Zip file to your device’s SD Card and ensure that it’s not placed deep into the phone or else it will not get detected in the further steps.
- Disconnect the phone connected from computer and turn Off the phone so as to enter the device in the recovery mode. The recovery mode in the Galaxy ACE can be entered by Holding Menu Button and then Power ON the device. If the device turns ON in the normal mode then you need to try again to enter into the recovery mode.

Tip: Due to some reasons if the update process gets failed or interrupted, then you need to apply the update again by following the steps again from the start. Don’t forget to restore the backup which you have taken in the initial steps.
