Procedure to Update Official Cyanogen Mod 9 in SONY Ericsson Xperia NEO:
So, before we proceed there are two sections with which you can apply this update. First up we will be checking out on how to unlock the boot loader and then in the next step we will check on how to apply this update of Cyanogen Mod 9.
Step 1: Tutorial to Unlock Boot loader in SONY Xperia neo
- Ensure that the FASTBOOT is installed in your computer and then also you need to ensure that the Android SDK is installed in your phone so that the fast boot shell can be installed in your computer.
- Now, open the dialer application in your phone and dial *#06# to show up the IMEI number in your phone and then you need to note down the same so that just in case in an unlikely event if the IMEI number gets lost, the same can be easily restore the same.
- Now, turn off the phone so that it can be then entered into the boot loader mode. Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo to the computer with the help of original USB cable.
- Open the terminal window in your computer and then you need to enter the below mentioned command and now ensure that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo to the computer and type in the below mentioned command.
fastboot -i 0x0fce getvar version
- As soon as the above command gets processed successfully, visit Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo Boot loader page and click on “Continue” button which is located at the bottom of the page after which you will be presented with “Are you really sure?” prompt. Read the prompt & if you agree, click “Yes, I sure”.
- Next it will prompt you to enter the 14 digits of IMEI number of your Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo minusing the last digit, you name along with the email address. After this you will be given the unlock code, write it down as you now need to enter the below mentioned command in the terminal window in your computer.
fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY
- Now, at this point of time ensure that the “KEY” in the above mentioned command should be replaced with the key which you have got. Just in a rare case if the device doesn’t get recognized, you need to ensure that the device is connected properly.
So once it’s done, you now can proceed to the next step which we have mentioned below. Please note that just in case if the above process gets stuck, you need to again follow the above procedure from the start.
Step 2: Installation of Official Cyanogen Mod 9 Nightly in Xperia neo:
- Download Cyanogen MOD 9 Custom ROM Firmware in your computer and then you need to install the Google Applications Package in your computer.
- Now, you need to extract the boot.img file from the Cyanogen Mod Update.zip and then copy the same to the fastboot folder (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
- Now, next up, place the Cynaogen Mod Update.zip file to the root of your device’s SD Card by connecting the phone to the computer using the original USB cable. Also, you need to place the downloaded Google Apps Zip package to your phone.
- Disconnect the phone connected from computer and turn off the device so that it can be then entered in the recovery mode which can be entered by Holding the Menu Button and then connect the phone to the computer with the help of USB cable.
- In your computer, open the command prompt and enter the below mentioned command one after other.
fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce reboot
- Now, while the device gets rebooted you need to press the Volume Rocker key so as to boot into the Clock Work mod recovery. As soon as the device boots in the Clock Work mod recovery, with the help of Volume rocker keys press the power button.
- Up next you need to select the “Wipe data / factory reset”, “Wipe Cache Partition” and then select “install zip from sd card > Choose zip from sd card” to select the “Cyanogen Mod Update.zip” along with the “Google Apps Zip Package”. As soon as the device is updated, the phone will be landing back to the recovery mode where you need to select “++++ Go back ++++” and then select “reboot system now”.
Note: just in case if the phone doesn’t get updated successfully, you need to repeat the whole process from the start.
