Xiaomi has partnered with the Android Open Kang Project (popularly known as AOKP) for its MIUI 7. The new MIUI will be based on Android 5.1 and will come pre-installed on the Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship Mi 5. This news has been officially confirmed by the AOKP’s team on their blog.
MIUI 7 has been internally codenamed ‘MiKangy’. It the post it is also added that the new UI will include popular features from top ROMs such as CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, Omni, and AOKP. The upcoming UI of the Mi 5 will evolve with the user and after few months of usage, the UI of each Mi 5 handset will have personalised features, as claimed by AOKP’s team members.
According to the post, MarcLandis will lead the technical development of MIUI 7 aka MiKangy while Zaphod will oversee the product development.
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices.
