While launching the Redmi 2 in India, the company said the limited edition of Redmi 2 with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage will me made available as limited edition devices. After that, there is no news about that device. However, the device with same specifications as of the limited edition Redmi 2 is launched in Singapore as ‘Redmi 2 Prime‘ for $179. Today, the same Redmi 2 Prime smartphone is launched in India for Rs.6,999. The form factor of the device has been remained same on the Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime.
The ‘Redmi 2 Prime’ is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to manufacture in India. All the Redmi 2 Prime smartphones sold in India will feature ‘Made in India’ logo. The devices will be available to purchase from offcial Mi website along with other leading Indian online stores.
Apart from the doubling the RAM and internal storage, the Redmi 2 Prime features the same specification of Redmi 2. It comes with 4.7-inch HD (1280×720) IPS display with DragonTrail Glass protection and powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with Adreno 3.6 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage with microSD card slot for further storage expansion upto 32GB.
Coming to the camera, it has the same 8MP rear camera found on Redmi 2 with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The device comes with a removable battery of 2,200mAh capacity. It is a dual SIM device with 4G LTE support and offers other basic connectivity options like Wi-FI, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0.
With this listing, we can expect the company to launch the device with-in next few weeks. The Redmi 2 was now available for just Rs.5,999 with the recent price cut of RS.1,000.
