Samsung Galaxy 551 – Steps to Update XWKPB Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware
So, Gingerbread 2.3.6 firmware is here! Yes, after so many months and days after we last covered on the Gingerbread 2.3.4 version of firmware arrival for your Samsung Galaxy 551 i5510 phone. locked phones means if you put any other sim card than your existing one then it will not catch network!
Updated from froyo 2.2.2 ugkc5 and now keyboard “z” and “y” have swapped and wifi shuts down after a few minutes and can’t reconnect with “error” message until power cycled… Any way I can revert back to my original version?

First of all very very thanx for this firmware….as i am waiting for last three month for this firmware.This firmware is very stable and working fine on my phone but their is minor problem i am facing that when i press z key it show y and when i press it show z.and also .com key is not working when i press it it show (,) comma.Its a great help for me if u remove this bug.and once again lots of thanx and love for ur great work.

The upgrade worked a treat but for me the language came up english (I was on a 2.34 release (European) previously. Is there anyway to force the phone to English as the default language?
you can change the language from the locale and text which is there in Settings!

recently the phone is not getting charged only..i have tried usb datacable and charger also the phone shows no trace of getting charged…
but when battery gets over and i put phn on charge,,then it gets charged…

Hi guys read about the samsung kies update to 2.3.6. for galaxy I5510. Also have a I5510dxjk5 csc:I5510OLBJK5 from the phils. and am currently in germany. Does this update only work with european ver. of the phone? Cause kies keeps on telling me that:

I really dont wanna be annoying, i just don’t want this “z” into “y” and viceversa, is a small glitch before being perfect, and really want to know why i doesn’t works for me, and how is that it worked for you, and if it has worked for anyone else?. (I used the typical T+POWER, wiped/clear chaché and nothing happenened :/)

I was on the default version of 2.2 froyo with arabic language , writing and reading it was fine
then i went successfully for your procedure for 2.3.4 europian one , but i lost arabic in writing , and also reading is so hard because it’s now written in the opposite direction !
Now the question is : If i go for this 2.3.6 firmware will i be able to see my default arabic back ? or is this a \europian-only\ firmware too ?

no, the default arabic language will be lost as for that you need to apply the arabic specific version!
2.3.6 doesnt support arabic as of now!

hi Neal, you are doing a great job for the android users in india.The samsung support in india really sucks, i called them several times regarding the enquiry of gingerbread update for i5510.They didnt give a satisfactory reply.I am now happy that i got XWKP5 Gingerbread 2.3.4 European Firmware and i am using that now.The performance of the phone is far better compared to stock 2.2 froyo.
Now i want to know that is 2.3.6 firmware stable and free from issues??.I read from above that there is a swaping in keys in physical keyboard, keys y and z changed after update.Is wifi , GPS, sensors working smoothly???.Any improvement in battery back up?????.Please reply…..Once again thanks…..

For this one, press T+Power and keeeeep waiting with them held down. The Samsung logo will flash twice. Keep waiting. Do not release until you see the recovery mode screen.

i have done my update.
and my phone is working quite well, but there are two problems, when the update process was complete when i entered the recovery mode, i cant do any of the tast you said to perform after upgrade as i couldnt select the options. at that time my touchscreen didnt work.
and second after upgrade i cudnt connect my phone to my pc as on my pc it shows no driver found for android UMS.

Have my 551 on 2.3.6 now. Works fine except the keyboard problem previously described. Some more info: The scandinavian national letters ÆØÅ has also disappered and the $ and € is also swapped.
To me it looks like the key to letter relation is hardcoded and Samsung has several physical layouts on the marked.

yes, but for this you need to root the phone!
This had not worked for me on the 2.3.4, even after rooting. That is because the init scripts could not be run at startup.
So, I am asking the question again to clarify it better :
In 2.3.6, is the startup any different, specifically to run the init scripts (after rooting)
If that is so, do we have to do a soft reboot for mounting alternate partitions like for Link2SD

To root your Galaxy 551 on android 2.3.6 follow the below instructions
1. First download the Root.zip from the below link

2. extracting to your SD Card (after extract you’ll get 3 files out of it one zip file don’t unzip or extract it)
3. reboot in recovery with T+power .
4. Select update from sdcard and then select Root.zip
5. Reboot in normal mode
that’s all you have root!!

i am using galaxy GT-i5510 i have updated my firmware from the link u have given.
But I has some bug like in my “QWERTY” y is working as z and z is working as Y
and also while conferencing from my side it is mute.
Why is my phone set in a different language now. Is there a way to fix this?
change the same from the locale and text option!

Hi all. I recently installed the 2.3.6 update and it’s running stable. However my proximity sensor no longer works–there seems to be a conflict with the “press power button to end call” feature. Now I have turned this feature off but still no sensor. Any fixes? Thanks!

How to enable the startup scripts (init scripts) in this firmware so that Link2SD does not need a soft restart at the beginning?
I had 2.3.4 but even rooting the phone would not enable the scripts. Any idea how to do this on 2.3.6?

For those having all sorts of keyboard problems:
YOUR PHONE NEEDS TO BE ROOTED. GET A ROOT EXPLORER TO DO THIS.
1. Copy “callisto_keypad3.kcm.bin” from “/system/usr/keychars” from 2.2 to sdcard.
2. Rename it to “sec_keypad.kcm.bin”.
3. Flash the phone to 2.3.6.
4. Copy the renamed file to same location ie “/system/usr/keychars” in the new firmware.
Everything is done, but wifi is still a problem. It is always stuck at obtaining ip address and nothing happens.

I really appreciate you have made the firmware. Its really a great job. I am a Bangali. I am using my phone more than 8 months. I saw that my phone doesn’t support Bangla language by default, I can’t see any bangla letter in android browser. Can this issue be fixed in the latest update??? And how much time it would take to realease the new update with all the bugs fixed???
i download the firmware package. but when i try to extract it. it asks for password. i gave password as androidadvices.com but it didnt work.
