Essential Pre Requisites:

  • There is a probability that, the data in your Motorola Defy might get lost or corrupted in the process of firmware update. We recommend you to back up all the data with the help of below mentioned instructions.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
ContactsSync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • Enable the USB debugging in your Motorola Defy phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked as shown in the below screen capture. (Phone should be disconnected from computer while enabling the USB Debugging Mode).
  • Disable all the antivirus suites in your computer and uninstall the same in your device as these tools generally tend to interrupt the process of firmware update.
  • Minimum charge left in the device should be at least 60% so as to ensure that device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

Assuming that you have followed all the above mentioned instructions, you can now proceed to the next page where we have summed up the detailed instructions on how to apply this update in your phone.

I followed the mentioned steps…after installing the zip packages from clockworkmod i selected ‘reboot system now’ but on the first attempt even after 30 minutes it was just showing Motorola logo. Then i removed the battery and entered into stock recovery mode and then selected wipe data and cache partition and automatically it went to rebbot itself. And still it not working….PLEASE HELP

Will like to try this for sure.
Please clarify, can I revert back to the standard official 2.2 already updated on my defy over the air.
Is there a way to revert back, just in case it is not impressive, because I am quite happy with the UI at present and want to upgrade for better performance and new experience only.

    • Pradeep Neela

hi, the boot option in my defy does not show the ‘install from sd card’ option. Instead ‘update from sd card’ is showing. So I cannot select or choose the downloaded zip files. Is this an issue with my phone? I have rooted the device already. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

Can I flash my rooted Android 2.1.1 (Eclair) device straight to ICS 4.0.4? Or do need to first flash to Froyo, before jumping to ICS 4.0.4?

    • Pradeep Neela

yes you can buit you need to have rooted and custom recovery image installed in your phone!

Hi. Thankfully i had been able to download this package and it was smooth enough and excellent. The new graphics looked impressive and a indeed a gift to defy owners to install ice cream sandwich on their phone.

But couple of problems listed below :
    – the clock application crashes and doesn’t allow you to operate. But the time is shown correctly.
    – In the performance settings the min and max operating frequency isn’t editable anymore :(
    – In reboot mode the phone goes into an infinite loop and never turns up.
    – The UI operation is a little bit glitchy.

These things being fixed shall go on to make the package indeed perfect.
