How to Update Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 with Official DDKQ8 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware
For all those who are having Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 smart phone can now roll up their sleeves as an all new update has arrived which is a Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware version and is dubbed as DDKQ8. This firmware is officially rolled out for Indian users and since it doesn’t come with the boot loader, you can easily apply on any of the ACE S5830 smartphone. In the due course of this article we will also be checking out on what are the pre update instructions followed by which we will check out the detailed tutorial on how to apply the same. We are not having the exact change log on what are the things which are new and improved but there are some minor performance fixes which have been done in this update. In this update there is an all new option of Lock Screen which resembles more like the screen lock for S2.
Note: Just in case if you are on any of the custom ROM firmwares or say if the device is rooted, then the rooting access will be revoked. The best part is the warranty can be reclaimed after applying the update. Just in case if you wish to root the device after applying this firmware, we will soon be coming up with an article which will help you to root the device on DDKQ8 firmware. It was the last time when we saw on how you can update with DDKQ6 update.
Rooting Information: In the process of this firmware update, the phone won’t be rooted as this firmware is the official release released by the Samsung Electronics Ltd.
Enhancements in DDKQ8 Gingerbread 2.3.4 Release:
- Improved Battery Life,
- RAM DUMP Mode error solved,
- Home screen lag and the brightness bug has been solved,
- Stability fixes have been induced in this version,

Pre Update Instructions:
- In the process of firmware update process, there is a possibility that the data may get lost or corrupted. So to safeguard the data you need to back up the same with the help of below mentioned steps.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Minimum charge left in the phone should be 60% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
- Up next you need to disable all the Security suites in your computer and uninstall all the antivirus apps in your phone. Enable the USB debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked. USB Debugging Mode can only be enabled once you disconnect the phone from computer. USB Debugging should be ticked.
So assuming that you have followed all the above mentioned instructions, you can now proceed to the next page where we have summed up detailed instructions on how to apply this update.

Just a little advice, instead of going through the recovery mode and wiping cache, we can shortcut by going Setting>Privacy>Factory data reset.

instead of doing all these tiring steps, u can simple update ur phone by going to settings—>about phone—>software update—>update
ur phone will b updated with latest official update available for ur phone in straight 15 mins…

Neela I’m facing the same issue. When i go into the download mode, it takes you to RAMDUMP Mode (ARM9 mode). The Odin detects the phone and i start the process but the timer just keeps going on.
Have also gone to the recovery mode and wiped data and partition but no effect.

Excellent and painless upgrade routines. Worked fire on my Ace from ver 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 without any loss at all. That was a first time experience as when I upgraded from Froyo to 2.3.4, it was data was wiped out (expectedly).

I was on 2.3.4 on Koodo and upgraded to 2.3.6 and am having problems since.After rebooting i can receive 1 call but second call will not go thru.In status it shows connected to Koodo, Service state:In service ,but when I call my phone I get message Client is not available

I updated with this ROM successfully. Its really awesome; 2 noticeable changes are
1) Lock Screen: swipe anywhere on screen with unread sms n missed call directed notification..
2) Incoming call graphics: green n red bubbles in place of slider…
Earlier i was using 2.3.6 Nordic Rom; but this one is even better; my samsung app is also working now…all over glow, fast, smooth, battery backup feels better, n few apps icon changes ….
Its so far’s best ROM ………….!!!

Indian Galaxy Ace can be updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6. Firmware seems to be pretty good without much bugs.

ummm. I just updated to 2.3.6 good thing i saw Joe’s comment on how he cant receive calls. Now am in the same boat.
Do i just factory reset? Gingerbread 2.3.4. is terrible. Its slow and freezes. I am forced to have inferior OS?
Worked like a charm… Why do you suggest Wipe data/factory reset? I don’t want to lose personal data. Let’s give it a try for a couple of days to see if everything is working.

If you are able to root the phone on DDKQ8, please post the method. I have rooted, but still i am not able to write to the system partition. It restaerts whenever I try. And also the latest ClockworkMod for DDKQ8. the previous versions sometimes throw error while installing custom roms in the line.. System.getProp ();

Ever since i updated to 2.3.5 i cannot update my phone, everything runs smoothly and then when i check my android version it is still 2.3.5, my phone has not worked properly since this update and i really need to get it sorted, i tried factory resets and yet it still comes back to 2.3.5, kies tells me i need an update but it never works(from the first day i tried it, then i came here) what could the problem be?

Upgraded to this one a week back ..Everything went smooth ..Thanks for your step by step procedure …One request though – in your zip file that contains the update, could you seperate ODIN from the zip and keep it seperate. I already had the ODIN but had to download it as part of zip and since my connection speed is not that great, took real long time …
Although most of them mentioned about better battery post this upgrade, well i did not find such a huge difference. But other things like call receive and unclock screen etc is cool …

I recently updated my galaxy ace to DDKQ8 firmware. The appearance of the lock screen is changed and it looks good , thats good. But I have noticed the following problems
1. When I start the FM radio and try to change any channel, the phone hangs and becomes too slow to respond. Even after killing the radio application using task manager, I am not able to get my phone working again. The only way to make it working again is to restart the phone.
2. I usually enable GPRS only when need and turn of when not required. The GPS does not start sometimes even after ‘ENABLE PACKET DATA’ option. Again , I need to reboot the phone to get it working again.
Anybody facing similar problems with your phone ? can you share your experience.

Remove the phone & pc connection and try to reconnect, once PC finds drivers for the device it will be perfectly connected.

I am using galaxy ace. I have rootedmy ace gingerbeard 2.3.6 to cm7 (which has gingerbeard 2.3.7. I have backup of contact in kies now iam not able to retrieve it . I have tries some converers it wont work for me. I want to know how to roll back to my original os just before cm7. I have taken a backup in CWM v5. I have tried to restore it

I upgraded this version and it was working fine… but from last week.. i am facing new issue with my phone…
- My GTS-5830 is not detecting on PC and it is showing an error.
“one of the usb devices has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it”
“Unknown Device” with Yello bang in task manager.
- Tried on 2-3 PCs but same error.
- Due to this am not able to upgrade it again too using ODINI tool.
- Phone also not working properly…

i tried to install the 2.3.7 version with odin and it didnt let me,after an hour i unplugged the device and it stock in download mode even if i turn it off and on again and again, later i fix it using cwm-recovery-ace.tar with odin and now i cannot lock the phone and my homescreen botton does not work, the internet sometimes forces to close and it is now really slow… is there a way to fix this? PLEASE ANSWER

hi, you can use odin to flash a firmware that is stable, i suggest you to flash gingerbread 2.3.4. just google the firmware you want to put and look in youtube on how to do it
Hope someone may guide me. i have samsung galaxy ace GT-S5830. i was running gingerbread 2.3.6 with root. today i made backup of all the downloaded apps through titanium backup. My phone memory was very low so decided to run factory restore and the reinstall apps afresh. i would like to mention here that i have successfully upgraded the OS of my set for couple of times and had absolutely no prob. but now im in trouble as my phone gets on and its setupwizard collapses. there after nothing can be done. tried to reinstall the 2.3.6 using odin but when i press “start”, after a short interval it gives the fol msg: “cannot open the usb serial port. code: 32″.
Device is connected and other checks done by odin are ok. So now im unable to use my set. Can someone plz tell me what to do???? plz

I just try this 2 hours ago. Facts to keep in mind:
- Use Odin 4.42 for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830- When locating the .ops file, the programa (ODIN) must detect the file as the phone model (in this case GT-S5830).- If the method keeps showing the MBIIB, you must detect if the program is the good one.- The following page show the differents version of ODIN and the correct .OPS file. (Spanish inside, so grab a translator if you want).

I have updated firmware through odin it updated sucessfully !! but earlier i have updated the custom roms like ics myth and after that Cyanogen mod 7 .2 and Cwm recovery as well everything installed sucessfully but i din like some features and rolled back to Gingerbread Dkq8 2.3.6 !!
now i have gingerbread DKQ8 now and when i connect the usb and open the kies software it getting an error message that reconnect the device and start ! drivers are successfully installed !

Hi Neela, I replaced my galaxy Ace touch screen as it was broken. now i have problen that the phone hang and i have to disconnect by power switch. my phone becomes hung and at times blacks out. I have to remove the battery and restart. please provide a solution if any.
Sir, my fone is not working properly for a few days. Was told by the vendor that i need to re-install firmware. but he says that in the process d motherboard could get affectd. Is it True? Should i go forward applyin this update?

I have updated the latest firmware DDKQ8 to Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. I am facing some music player issue. I play the music through headphone. I get the call while music is playing. Music pauses and I receive the call, finish talking and disconnect the call. After call the music should play where it has paused, but here it does not restart. I don’t hear it in my headphone. I can play music through my phone speaker but not in my headphone. If I need to hear music in headphone I need to restart the phone and play. Again if I get call while playing music through headphone it gets stopped. I am facing this problem in previous firmware too i.e. DDKQ7.
