Hei, I can not download the XWJW1 Firmware package, it appears always a hotmail message with US copy rights complainment. Here are some specification of my i9000 Galaxy S:
    Firmware: 2.3.6; gingerbread: xwjw1; kernel: 2.6.35.7.-i9000 xwjw1-cl788890 root@dell 89-#2.

I would be very gladful if you could give me some advice for a compatible kernel.

    I have Samsung galaxy s GT I 9000 ; firm ware: 2.3.4 ; base band ver. : I9000 XXJVR ; build no. gingerbread xxjvr ;
    kernel ver 2.6.35.7 – I9000 xxjvr – ch 425308 se. infra@ SEP – 63# 2

I experienced force close issue so I applied the recovery mode and followed the procedure and reboot the device.
I then realised that there was an update ready on the Samsung Kies so I clicked update. The information on the Kies
indicated that the firmware ver is PDA: JVR / PHONE: JVR / CSC: JVR( SWC ). However on the phone itself the informationsays : firmware ver. 2.3.4 and baseband ver. I9000xxjvr

What I have noticed is that if I UNINSTALL applications like “WhatsApp, Skype and Bible” and put the device off, then next day when I switch on those applications are re-installed. Also if I copy music on to the device next day when I switch on, the music is deleted. Force issue still persist on skype, whatsapp, bible and avg.

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance,

    Kwasi

    Firmware Ver: 2.3.3
    Baseband Ver: I9000UGKG3
    Kernel Ver: 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3 sj0829.kwon@SEP-08 #2
    Build #: GINGERBREAD.GKG3

I am new to this whole ROM update environment and although I have a technical background and training in computers, I am hesitant to move forward without confirmation of the following questions:

    1. Can I update my phone with this 2.3.6 XXKPQ firmware without risk of harming the phone

    2. I have used all the recommended back up application to back up contacts, music/pics/video, applications etc to my SD card. If I wipe data/factory reset the phone as is ‘recommended’ above, by simply recovering the backed up data to the phone reinstall my applications and such? Do I even have to perform a factory reset/wipe data command?
    3. Can I apply the semaphore upgrade to this phone as well once I have installed the gingerbread update mentioned in point 1 above?

Thanks for your help on this matter and I look forward to your reply.

    Hi Neela,

I’got two question if allowed :)

    1. Question
I upgrade a few days ago to xxJVU from your post. Work great. My device was fast as never before. Then next day I rooted according your post again with CMW (CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS). also wihtout problems. But I realized that the Gallery opens up very slow or even hangs which was not the case before rootins. Is it possible that the tweaks has caused such behavior? I tryed to disable all tweaks but nothing changed.

    2. Quetsion
I need to restore a few applications from my CWM backup before the upgrade. How can I do that?

    Thanks in advance

    • Reply Neela Pradeep April 5, 2012 at 9:20 pm

      1. CLEAR THE CACHE FROM RECOVERY, IT WILL BE FIXED!
      2. YOU CAN RESTORE THE SAME FROM CWM ONLY

    Hi Neela,

    I’ve got 2 questions if allowed :)

    1. Question,
I’ve upgraded to xxJVU. Worked fine, fast perfect. next day I rooted with CWM (CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS) from your post. but then I realized that the Gallery “hangs” sometimes when first started. or it takes huge time to update thumbs like 30 seconds. I disabled ALL tweaks in CWM but no success. Is it possible that CWM tweaks have been the reason for that?

    2. Question
I need to restore just only some application from my previous CWM Backup. How can I do that?

    Thanks in advance
    Cem

    • Reply Neela Pradeep April 5, 2012 at 11:44 pm

The first 2 letters of the code represents the region / country and the only difference you could expect are the language packs they carry. Most of the firmwares that come up on androidadvices are European by origin and they are more stable than the rest. Official Asian firmware is still at 2.3.3 compared to Europe’s 2.3.6.

XW J\W\1 is newer than XX J\V\U because \W\ comes after \V\ in the alphabet lol… I am serious ;)

    Letter Code:

XX—> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, United Kingdom
XW—> Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom
XE—> Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine
    DD—> India
DX—> Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam

I updated my SGS GT I9000 with this XWJW1 and rooted as well as per your tutorial. Everything went well and smooth. But my phone now does not recognize the SIM card. There is no phone service! WIFI and all other apps including Super User, Rom Manager etc are working. (Now About phone: Model GT-I9000, Fir ware version:2.3.6 , Baseband version: Unknown, Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJW1-CL788890 root@DELL89#2, Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJW1)
I wiped cache, did factory reset and tried this update many times, but all with the same result. I can get into the recovery mode and download mode.
Finally I decided to go back any other earlier version of GB. I tried many GB versions of 2.3.5. The Odin accepts the device but in the middle of updating process, it stops and finally the device goes off. How can I over come this issue and get back my device as a working phone?

Just to update you , i did a complete re apply off the update step by step, SIM card would not detect before
        and after rooting.

Im assuming it may be something with Australia sim card frequency from what i read on another forum?

I dont know what to do.

    • Reply Mahmud Koya January 31, 2012 at 8:47 pm

      Hi LDAP,

Don’t panic! I had also the same problem plus I could not go back to any other earlier versions of GB after having updated with this XWJW1. It gave me many hours of tension before I succeeded to overcome the issue. Many times I applied and reapplied, wiped cache, and did factory reset. Finally I took out battery, sim card sd card and even restarted my PC and updated with the GB XXJVZ 2.3.6 and also rooted with its package successfully. Now everything is working well and fine. To add beauty to my device, I applied the ROM Amestris. V7.1 too.
      Try, best of luck!

Can we update directly from Froyo 2.2.1 XXJPY. I tried to update to several gingerbread version and always got the same problem: when calling people can hear me but I can´t.

Is possible to update it directly from froyo?

    • Reply Pradeep Neela January 30, 2012 at 11:03 pm

      both are better!

      • Reply Rudeboy January 31, 2012 at 5:28 pm

        Pradeep,

In your previous response to knt you told him that XXJVU is better, and now you change by saying both is best. What should I believe?

        • Pradeep Neela January 31, 2012 at 5:51 pm

features of XWJW1 can’t be compared with XXJVU! XXJVU is not stable but comes with added features whereas XWJW1 lacks some key features which are there in XWJVU but is a stable build

Before to update with this version, I have a question:

Thanx for your all time support.

    • Reply Pradeep Neela January 30, 2012 at 11:05 pm

Guys, you web pages are locking up my IE browser again. Had a problem with this some weeks back which you eventually cleared. Now back again. It seem to be something to do with the scripts you are running for the recurring subscribe screen which is a real pain, not least if you’ve already registered.
