Xiaomi Mi5 (Gemini) with Snapdragon 820 SoC Spotted on GeekBench

Update Nov 13, 2015: Xiaomi’s latest flagship Mi5 has been in the news for a while now about which processor will be used in the upcoming smartphone. Now, a new device with flagship specifications codenamed ‘Xiaomi Gemini‘ that is alleged to be the Mi5 has been spotted on GeekBench listing. As per the listing, the device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 quad-core processor clocked at 1.59GHz.

The smartphone runs on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI on top of it. The GeekBench scores of the smartphone include 2140 on single-core, 4762 on a multi-core and as per the listing will be available in 3GB RAM variant. Since, the possible launch of the device is scheduled for December 3, stay tuned for more details in coming days.

Xiaomi-Mi5-Benchmark

Earlier Oct 12, 2015: Xiaomi Mi5 was rumoured to sport a Snapdragon 820 SoC but as its production is getting late the company is gearing upto launch Helio X20 powered Mi5 in an event on October 19th in China. The company has also sent out the media invites for the press event with quotes ‘Next generation of New Conference.’

Apart from the Helio X20 processor the device will also sport a 16MP rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP front-facing shooter. The device will also feature a fingerprint sensor and is expected to come backed by a 3030mAh battery. The Mi5 is expected to be priced at 1,999 yuan ($316).

Along with the Mi5, the company is also expected to launch the rumoured Mi Band 2, Windows 10 powered tablets and Laptops. Stay tuned for complete details!

Earlier Oct 3, 2015: The previous rumors stated that Xiaomi Mi5 will be one of the first smartphones to employ the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 SoC. Now, according to the fresh leaks from China, the Xiaomi Mi5 will be the first smartphone to come with Qualcomm’s latest ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology. The company also said that the most recent ultrasonic sensors improves the accuracy and also eliminates the need for a capacitive sensor.

Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint tech can also create a 3D map of your finger, complete with all the micro-ridges of your skin. Qualcomm says, unlike current-gen fingerprint readers, it works well even with wet or dirty fingers. Not only the accuracy but another interesting thing about the latest tech is also that the ultrasonic sensor can recognize fingerprints through various materials, such as glass, metal, and plastic. This means that the latest tech eliminates the need for a capacitive sensor outside of the body.

As this information is wholly based on rumors, but it will be interesting to see how Xiaomi decides to make use of the Snapdragon 3D fingerprint sensor.

Earlier Sep 28, 2015: Recently Xiaomi has launched a new smartphone called Mi4c. The Mi4c comes with a 5-inch FHD display, Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and also includes a USB Type-C port. The Mi4c with those high-end specifications is priced at just $235. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker is gearing upto launch its next flagship device named Mi5. The latest smartphone was surrounded by many rumours recently and today a new rumour has leaked suggesting few leaked specifications.

Leaksfly a well-known leakster has posted on his Weibo account that the Mi5 will be the first smartphone to come powered by Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. As per the leaks the device will flaunt a 5-inch FHD display and will arrive in two storage variants, one with 16GB built-in storage and the other with 32 GB onboard storage.

The device is also expected to sport a 16MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front-facing shooter. It will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based latest MiUi 7. We can also expect Mi5 to include a fingerprint sensor that is seen in most of the high-end handsets these days but there is no information about it as of now.
