Alcatel has kicked of its IFA campaign today with its flagship phablet device dubbed as One Touch Hero 2. It is company’s latest offering which features a massive 6-inch TFT LCD Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels resolution) with Dragontrail glass protection and oleophobic coating. Company has made this a bit thinner than its predecessor One Touch Hero, which has a thickness of 7.9mm.
The Hero 2 is powered by an Octa-core Mediatek MT6592 Processor, which clocks at 2 GHz. It will be running on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat operating system with company’s custom UI. On the storage front, the device packs a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via the microSD slot.
In the camera department, the device sports an 13.1MP Autofocus rear shooter with OIS +EIS (Optical Image and Video Stabilization) and LED flash it can also record 1080p videos as 30fps. At front, the device touts a 5MP selfie snapper as it can also record at HD resolution. The camera app comes with features like QR code scanner, Camera live filters, Extended panorama, and more.
For connectivity, the device offers various set of features like Category 4 LTE which is the next generation in 4G LTE network. Other connectivity features are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, , DLNA, and GPS. All this is powered by a 3100 mAh battery, which will give you rated talktime of up to 4.5 hours and standby time of up to 380 hours in 4G and 3G networks, respectively. And it takes up to 3 hours to fully charge the device once all the battery juice is drained.
Hero 2 comes with a stylus similar to the Samsung S Pen, it is also optimized for the handwriting recognition, which clearly states that company is aiming it against the Samsung’s recently announced Note 4 and Huawei Mate 7. Currently, Samsung is the market leader in the phablet space, but with many brands introducing a dedicated category for a phablet in their portfolio, the South Korean giant’s market share is going to have negative impact.
The Alcatel One Touch hero 2 will be available in Europe by the end of the September. It is priced at €350, which roughly converts to $455, though, there is no information available for when this device will go on sale in other markets.
