Cyanogen will continue delivering updates to Global OnePlus One Devices including users in India – Details

Earlier today, Cyanogen Inc. has issued a statement to defend them and squash rumours that have been circulating. In its statement, the company says that it remains committed to its users, and will be providing OTA firmware updates for the global variant of the OnePlus One, including the one sold in India.

Last week, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei announced that Cyanogen Inc. will not be providing software updates for the OnePlus One in India because of their exclusive deal with Yu. This came as a shock to many since the OnePlus One was the first handset to ship with CyanogenMod out of the box.

The company also shed some light into its deal with Micromax’s Yu brand by saying that it will allow them to “push the envelope and take Cyanogen OS to new heights.” The new Yu brand of devices will also allow them to bring “high quality, amazing experiences” to users in India.

OnePlus launched its flagship Oneplus One smartphone, priced at Rs. 21,999 for the 64GB version (Sandstone Black). The smartphone is available via invites exclusively on Amazon.in. A 10-day return policy by Amazon was also announced, while HCL Care will exclusively handle after sales service across more than 20 service centres in India.

The OnePlus One runs Cyanogen 11S or CM 11S, with the ‘S’ signifying the customisation for the One smartphone. Notably, CM 11S is based on Android 4.4 KitKat, while the company has issued several OTA updates bringing bug fixes and new features in the interim, with the latest in November taking it to CM 11S 44S – it ships with this version out-of-the-box in India.
