The move will give Chinese developers exposure to the hundreds of millions of Android devices all over the world, opening up opportunities to make money via in-app purchases or subscriptions within free applications, and by selling paid-for apps too. The Google Play Store is still not available in China. Google made no indication in its blog post that the Play Store is coming to China, although today’s announcement could be a step in the right direction.

Interested developers from China will have to visit the Publish page on the Google Play Store and register as a developer. For those looking to sell apps will need to sign up for a Google Wallet merchant account, which can be done by visiting the Revenue page of the Google Play Developer Console. After you’ve uploaded your apps, you can set prices in the Developer Console and later receive reports on your revenue. The app developer will receive the payouts via wire transfer. For more details, you can visit developer help centre of Google.

China is a very huge market for any tech company. China is estimated to account for roughly half of the more than 1 billion Android users across the globe. In 2010, Google shut down Google.cn over hacking allegations against the Chinese government. Google chose to cut ties rather than continue censoring its search results in the country. Google still maintains R&D and ad sales offices in China.

Earlier today, some reports claimed that Google is in discussions with the Chinese government and potential carrier partners to launch the Google Play app store in China.
