Update : According to the latest reports, Google will start rolling out the update for the Android One smartphones sometime in January. Speaking to the India Today, Spice’s CEO Prashant Bindal said that they are planning to provide Lollipop in our Android One devices around January 2015 and the update will be available for all Dream Uno users in India. The update may come even sooner, as an unnamed source inside Google reportedly told India Today that it could land as early as mid-December.
There have not been any announcements regarding the Micromax A1 or the Karbonn Sprakle V. However, since the update is coming from Google, it can be expected for these devices to get the Lollipop around the same time.
Android One smartphones run on stock Android, and Google had promised that they would be one of the first smartphones along with Nexus devices to get the update. But with over a week since Nexus devices have started getting the update, and so have some Motorola devices, Android One users are still waiting.

Date – Sept 15,2014
Google has just launched the Android One based smartphones in the event going on India and these set of devices will be priced at Rs 6399. We have been waiting for this project from many days and we also know that Google partnered with three of the Indian OEMs (Karbonn, Spice and Micromax). These Android One devices will be running stock Android and will be getting automatic updates like the Google Play edition devices. The aim of this project is to provide low cost devices with stock Android experience in India since only 29% of Indians own a smart phone because of the high prices.
Although, Google also has the plans to expand this Android One project to few other countries like Philippines, Indonesia and other part of Asia by the end of 2014 and in 2015 it will be moving to many other countries. We can expect many more devices coming up in the similar price range so that the users have wide range to choose from.
The three OEMs have partnered with three different eCommerce giants in India, as Spice mobiles partnered with Flipkart, Micromax joined with Amazon.in and Karbonn has chosen Flipkart to exclusively launch their first set of Android One Smartphones. Moreover this device will support seven different languages that include Hindi. According to leaks from Flipkart, the Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 will be having a 4.5 inch FWVA IPS LCD display and will be powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor coupled with 1 GB of RAM and Mali 400 MP GPU. The battery on the device is at 1700 mAh.
The Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498 will be sporting a 5 MP camera on the rear and 2 MP camera on the front. The on-board memory of the device is at 4 GB that can be further extended up to 32 GB via microSD card slot and will run the latest Android 4.4 KitKat Operating system. The same specifications can also been seen in Karbonn Sparkle V and Micromax Canvas A1 with the same screen size and resolutions.
Moreover, Google has partnered with telecom operator Airtel and will be offering 200 MB of free data for 6 months along with the Android One smartphones. Another big thing Google announced is that YouTube will be available for offline viewing in India. This will be good news to all the people as they can now watch videos later also. It will be interesting to see how every one responds to these Android One devices.
