Gionee GPad G5 Hands-On & Initial Impressions

Gionee GPad G5 is the successor of the GPad G4 from the Chinese manufacturer Gionee. The Chinese mobile phone based company – Gionee was founded in the year 2002 and moved into the markets like India, Nigeria, Vietnam and Philippines. The company also holds the record of making the slimmest smart phone called as the Gionee Elife S5.5 with a thickness of 5.5mm. The company is also making another device with 5.1 thicknesses, and it will be the thinnest phone ever made till date and will be named as the Gionee Elife S5.1. GPad G5 might not be thin but is packed with some decent specs, considering its price range.

Design

The Gionee GPad G5 comes with a unique design and resembles the Sony Xperia Z series with sharp edges. The bezels on the sides are decent but on top and bottom it can be utilized in a better way. The top part of the bezel is covered with speaker grill and below that we can see the 2 MP front facing camera. At the bottom, we can find the three capacitive touch buttons used for recent, Home and menu. Towards the right of the device, we can find the power button on the top and the volume rockers just above it. There is nothing on the left of the device and at the top we can find the 3.5 mm audio jack. At the bottom, there is a mic and adjacent to it is a USB slot for transferring the data as well as charging the device.

On the back, we can find the 8 MP camera and just below it there is a LED flash. At the bottom of the back, we can see the speaker grills and also on the top. Nothing else can be seen on the back apart from the Gionee branding. Since the back cover of the device is removable, the SIM and microSD slots are placed inside. The back cover of the device is made of plastic, unlike the Elife S5.5 that had glass. The interface is also very good without any lags, and even the camera is decent with many options and features. We can add effect to videos also while we are shooting it. Over-all the device is very good for its pricing may be the built quality could have been little better. Would like to use this device for few days and come with a complete review. The device is available in White and Black colour variants and is priced at Rs. 14999.
