Google Updates Material Design Guidelines, calls it a “Living Document” – Details

After coming out with the Material Design guidelines earlier, here comes the updated version of Material Design from Google which comes with the updated things which we will be checking out in the due course of this article. This new material design will be used by most of the apps to support the Android 5.0 Lollipop to support the design which Google will be coming out. This updated list of guidelines include Sketch templates, icon downloads, inspiring visual and motion design ideas etc. Google is taking a huge leap when it comes to design and this one from Google is simply outstanding and revolutionary. So let’s check out on what are the list of things which have been updated when compared with the earlier guidelines;

In addition to the Android 5.0 SDK which Google has launched today, there are significant updates to the material design guidelines which includes;

  • Updated sticker sheets in PSD, AI and Sketch formats
  • A new icon library ZIP download
  • Updated color swatch downloads
  • Updated white frame downloads, including better baseline grid text alignment and other miscellaneous fixes

In sticker sheets, the label refinements have taken place and have been now integrated in the single one. This new sticker sheet is also available in Adobe Photoshop and Sketch. This sticker sheets also includes the light and dark symbols for the status bar, app bar, bottom toolbar, cards, dropdowns, search fields, dividers, navigation drawers, dialogs, the floating action button, and other components. This new sticker sheet comes with the icon sets for various app types like media playback, communication, content editing, connectivity, and so on.

While Google will keep updating the guidelines of material design, you can head over to the Updated Material Guidelines posted by Google. Since Google calls this a “living document”, it will add more things to this document as in when it discovers.
