Google releases ‘Device Assist’ App For Nexus, Android One, and Google Play Devices Running Lollipop – Details

Google has launched a new troubleshooting app called Device Assist for Nexus, Google Play edition (GPE), and Android One devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Device Assist app is now available for download from Google Play and is currently limited to US-based devices (Nexus, Google Play edition and Android One) running Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The new app by Google provides “tips and proactive troubleshooting” when it detects issues on the device. The inclusion of Android One proves Google is dedicated to the emerging markets, and don’t want users to get confused or annoyed with a new operating system.

Device Assist helps you understand how to use your Android device and to troubleshoot any problems that may arise. Google says that the app can help with issues related to features like GPS, connectivity and battery and give tips on how to use new features and how to improve your device’s performance. And if you’re using a Nexus or Google Play edition device, the app can also easily connect you with live Google support.

It also offers suggestions such as changing the screen brightness setting to save battery, or for charging from a power outlet rather than from a USB port for faster charging. The app also offers a button to contact Google support team for complicated issues and reminds users to share device information with Google for improved technical support. Along with requesting a call back, you can submit your device statistics directly to Google, which could speed up the troubleshooting process.

Yesterday, the Android Open Source Project released the code repository for build number LXR22C, which is set to become android-5.0.1-r1. You can already flash Android 5.0.1 to select Nexus devices; Google has posted the Android 5.0.1 factory images for the Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10. There’s no word yet on exactly what the new update includes. Considering that it’s an x.x.1 update, it’s mostly got some under-the-hood improvements. The update is also supposed to fix a variety of issues with the initial 5.0 builds
