HTC has announced a low-end Android smartphone, the Desire 300 along with the other one, the HTC Desire 601 and a Bluetooth/NFC enabled speaker, and the Desire 300 looks good with the tag of being a low-end device, thus one would expect the pricing to be based on that, and the specs do look not-so-bad as the device comes from a brand that is known to launch trustworthy products, and the HTC One, their flagship device for this year had received quite some appreciation lately.
The Desire 300 comes with a 4.3-inch WVGA display, which has got a screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, and the device is thicker than even the Desire 601 which has got a thickness of less than 10mm, but the Desire 300 has a thickness of 10.12mm. Under the hood, you get to see a 1 GHz Dual-core processor, which is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 one, backed by the 512MB of RAM for multitasking.
On the rear, there’s a 5-megapixel camera that comes with a f2.8 aperture, 34mm lens and WVGA recording, but one won’t be impressed with the fact that there is no flash provided with the camera, and this would take back you to the days when Samsung released their first standard Galaxy product, the Galaxy S. A VGA front camera is provided, to assist in the video calling.
Within the 4GB ROM, there’s a user available storage of 1.4 GB as the other storage is used up by the system and the pre-installed apps, and the HTC Sense UI that makes the Jelly Bean OS better, but the RAM would be an issue for users who are trying to multitask, and would need more than the provided 512MB RAM. The device has got a 1650 mAh battery and the connectivity options included in the Desire 300 are Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS, AGPS.
With all the specs given, we expect HTC to come up with a pricing of somewhere around $200 for this device, or else it would be a clear fail with the WVGA display, the RAM and the processor too. The phone would be launched in October this year, and there would be just a single version with this storage space, having an option of storage expansion to 64GB with the MicroSD card.
