Huawei has announced its all-new flagship device in India, which is a successor to the Honor 6 that was launched last year. Company touts camera features of its latest flagship, saying that it sports one of the best-in-class camera technology that can be found on a flagship device. We are present at the exclusive launch event held by Huawei in New Delhi, where company launched its latest flagship, the Honor 6 Plus at a price tag of INR 26,499. Now let’s take a look at this new Honor 6 Plus.

Design
The Chinese mobile vendor has kept the design of the Honor 6 Plus somewhat similar to its predecessor, the Honor 6. While the left edge is clean, company placed Volume and power keys on the left edge, which is followed by a slot of microSD card, as well as Dual-SIM. Since, it is a unibody design, therefore, there is no room for that slot at the back of the device since its non-removable as well as the battery is fixed too. At the back you’ll find the dual-lens camera and LED flash, as well as the speaker grill is placed on the bottom left corner of the back. Coming to the front, there is an 8MP module on the top, beside some sensors. Overall, the design of Honor 6 Plus is beautiful and clean.
Hardware
The new Honor 6 Plus features a 5.1-inch Full HD display that boast a 401 PPI (pixel per inch). It is powered by company’s in-house HiSilicon Kirin 925 Octa-core chipset that combines, Quad-core Cortex-A15, and Quad-core Cortex-A7. The processor is paired up with a Mali-T628 GPU, along with a massive 3GB of RAM. Some users might not be happy with only 16GB internal storage, although, company did make up that by offering a microSD card support, where you would be able to expand the overall storage of the device. All this is powered by a heavy 3600mAh battery, which should give more than two days of charge on average usage while under heavy usage it may last for little more than a day. We would test out this claim once we started using the device as our daily driver.
Software
The device currently runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat OS with company’s custom skin on top of it. The Emotion 3.0 UI somewhat reminds of the iOS interface, which is an advantage for the company, as it gives it sleeker look. You’ll find no app drawer on the device, just like iOS. This type of interface is now getting more common on Android custom skins,and Emotion 3.0 UI is not much different from them, but it still has better look than what you see on Gionee handset and older MIUI v5. For further opinion about company’s custom interface, you will have to wait for our review, which should not take more than couple of days.
Camera
While the most interesting point about this device are its dual 8MP rear cameras, that are claimed to be offering the fastest focus within 0.1 second. According to the company, it features a first of its kind bionic parallel dual-lens. We didn’t get to play around with the maximum camera abilities yet, but we are looking forward to doing that. Also, if you are a huge fan of panoramas, then, the 8MP dual rear cam on the Honor 6 Plus has a depth recording capability for panoramic imaging. Isn’t that just amazing? Right! Moreover, the dual lens placed at the back of the device allows them to take full advantage of capturing the maximum light by accessing the most of the photosensitive area around the object. So, you can hope to get much clearer and precise images from Honor 6 Plus’s rear camera.

Now talking about the front camera on the device, it packs an 8MP front camera module, which is accompanied by Sony’s BSI sensor. According to the company, its panoramic selfie would allow you to take the much wider selfies, meaning no one would feel left out when taking a group selfie. Few other software enhancements include 10-level auto face beautification.
Initial Thoughts
Spending few hours with the device we learned that an Android smartphone can really crank up the performance and can still give a better battery life. While its USP is the dual 8MP rear cameras, the design form factor is also a good thing to like about Huawei’s latest flagship. The specification of this device on paper are quite beastly, and so far we like what this device has to offer under the price bracket of INR 30K.
