Last week, some reports claimed LG has started working on a new phone dubbed as the LG G4 Pro. It was said that the LG will use metal in the LG G4 Pro’s build. Today, some more details pertaining to the device have appeared online.
According to a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, the LG G4 Pro will feature a 5.8-inch screen with a 1440 x 2560 resolution and it will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC. The other specs include 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage, a massive 27MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera.
Last month, Eason Shao, LG Taiwan’s director of mobile business, had announced that the company planned to launch another flagship smartphone in the second half of 2015. According to Shao, the launch of a second flagship this year was part of LG’s strategy to increase its sales in Taiwan by at least 30%.
Shao did not share any details about the second flagship as its hardware features are yet to be finalized, but revealed that LG had high hopes for both the G4 as well as the upcoming flagship to be launched in the latter half of the year.
Earlier: LG G4 Pro could feature Metal Body Design – Report
According to the latest reports, LG has started working on a new phone dubbed as the LG G4 Pro. The LG will use metal in the LG G4 Pro’s build. LG is planning on using metal on the LG G4 Pro as a pilot before deciding if the use of metal should be applied to future flagship models.
Citing company insiders, ETNews has claimed LG is looking to adopt a study, metal finish to its future phone in order to distinguish it from the plastic and leather clad G4. When LG launched the LG G4, some were surprised that the handset did not feature a glass/metal build. LG seemed to be adopting Samsung’s previous designs which adopted a leather back as one of its options.
However one of the problems that LG is facing is the cost of production for metal bodies, which understandably is higher than that of plastic. Given that LG produces far less devices compared to companies like Apple and Samsung, the use of metal would undoubtedly end up eating into their profit margins.
To differentiate itself from Samsung Electronics and Apple, it is pushing for press+CNC processing method rather than full Computer Numerical Control (CNC) processing method. It is a method that first processes aluminum through press, then cuts with CNC equipment. If it is able to secure processing technology, one can hope for low price and performance that is just the same as current metal cases.
That being it is unclear as to what else we might be able to expect from the LG G4 Pro. It is not clear yet if LG has any plans for a new flagship phone for the later part of the year.
