XXAMG4 is the new firmware version for Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini I8190 which ropes in the Jellybean 4.1.2 for the device. Though, there is no ETA on by when there will be an official Jellybean 4.2.2 or for say Jellybean 4.3 officially be announced for the device, you can go ahead and apply this update manually just in case if you didn’t get this update via OTA or via KIES. This version mainly fixes the bugs pertaining to the camera and overheating issues which were there in earlier version of ICS. Before proceeding to the detailed guide which will help you upgrade, you will have to follow the list of quick pre requisites mentioned below.
Note: Applying this update won’t root the device in any manner / void the warranty as it’s an official firmware released by Samsung Electronics.
Quick Pre Requisites:
- Create a backup of all the data present in your Galaxy S3 Mini with the help of below mentioned steps manually and not with the help of KIES. Alternatively, you also need to create a backup of WhatsApp / any other chat messenger backup as well as it will be erased after applying the update.
Note: Don’t backup the data with the help of ROM Manager as it may brick the device completely.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Head over to the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” in your Galaxy S3 Mini so as to enable the USB Debugging Mode.
- Make sure that minimum charge left in your phone is 50% or else there is a risk of device getting turned off in the middle of firmware update increases which may even brick your Galaxy S3 Mini.
