Nexus 6 from T-Mobile to receive Android 5.1.1 update with Wi-Fi calling feature

Update: The Wi-Fi calling feature was not available till now for Nexus 6, the T-Mobile had just approved a new update with build number LYZ28E making your device run Android 5.1.1. If everything goes right, the update may start rolling out in the next few weeks. With the Wi-Fi calling feature, users can make a call over Wi-Fi even without the mobile network signal.

The Wi-Fi calling feature could have come to Nexus 6 in early 2015, but due to some issues with the new software the update got delayed. The new update also includes Device Anti-Theft and fixes for the bugs along with minor improvements.

The Nexus 6 users from T-Mobile might get a notification about the new update (LYZ28E) within a next couple of weeks. Once we get more details about the latest update including the changelog, we will let you get updated.

Nexus 6 Android smartphone, one of the prime smartphones can now be updated with the manual version of Android 5.1 release. This new update comes with the fixes related to Wi-Fi, cellular connectivity and Bluetooth improvements. This new version of Lollipop is dubbed as LMY47E and also this update will soon be rolled out gradually globally. While this update will take some time to hit all the smartphones around the globe. So let’s check out on how you can apply this all new update.

Quick Pre Requisites:
All the data in your device should be backed up with the help of below mentioned steps and not with any automated tools.

Navigate to “Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging” to enable the same in your Galaxy S5. Just in case if you can’t see the Developer Options, head over to the “About Phone” to tap on the “Build Number” multiple times till the Developer mode doesn’t get enabled.

Make sure that your phone is left with the minimum of 50% so as to make sure that your device doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.

Procedure to Update Nexus 6 with Lollipop 5.1 Android OS:
Download the Lollipop 5.1 Android OS Package from here to you computer. Once done, you now need to connect your Nexus 6 to the computer using the original USB cable.

Now, power off the device so that it can be entered in the fastboot/ boot loader mode which can be done with the help of below mentioned command which you need to enter in the command prompt.

Just in case if you are unable to boot your device in the boot loader mode with the help of command prompt, you need to press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down and press the Power button till the device enters in the fastboot menu after which the Start button will appear on screen.

You need to unlock the boot loader with the help of below mentioned command;

Fastboot oem unlock

Now, navigate to the downloaded folder of Shamu-LMY47E and then copy/ paste all the files to the fastboot directory.

Depending upon the computer, you need to enter the below mentioned commands in your respective machines;

Windows: Run the file “flash-all.bat”
Mac: Run the file “flash-all.sh” using Terminal
Linux: Run the file “flash-all.sh”

Now, all you need to do is to just follow the on screen instructions for updating the device and once done, the device will be rebooting automatically.

Note: If your Nexus 6 device gets in the boot loop mode, you need to long press the power button to re follow the instructions.
