Manual Update SONY Xperia ZL with Jellybean 4.3 Android OS – Guide

SONY Xperia ZL Android phone can now be updated with the Jellybean 4.3 Android firmware, all thanks to the Cyanogen Mod Team for coming out with the same. While there are no updates on by when there will be an Official firmware update of Jellybean 4.3 Android OS for Xperia ZL device, you can go ahead and apply this update in your device. So before we check out the instructions which will help you update the device, let’s check out on what are the quick pre requisites you need to go through.

Quick Pre Requisites:

  • Assuming that you have already updated the firmware, ensure that you have created a backup of all the data in your device manually so as to make sure that just in case if the data gets lost or corrupted, the same can be restored easily.

SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names

  • From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” enable the SUB Debugging Mode. Also, make sure that the minimum charge left in your phone is 40% or else there is a risk of device getting turned off in the middle of firmware update.

  • If a Status 7 error message flashes while installing firmware, it could be due to an incompatible device or absence of a necessary kernel (for instance, a Jelly Bean Kernel must be installed before installing any Jelly Bean ROM).
  • Make sure that you have rooted your SONY Xperia ZL Android phone. To check on whether your phone is rooted or not, you will need to download the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store.
