How to Manual Update VZW Galaxy Nexus with Official ICS Android 4.0.4 Firmware

Procedure to Update Verizon Wireless Galaxy Nexus with ICS 4.0.4 IMM76K:
OTA Update:

  • Just in case if you have already got an update notification as shown in the below screen capture, all you need to do is to just Download and Install the update. All you need to ensure is that you have an Active data connection and then follow all the on screen instructions to update the same.

  • Additionally, you can also choose “Install Later” for installing the update later. You can manually initiate by going to “Home > Applications > Settings > About Phone > System updates”. After this, Press “Restart & install”. Your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

Just in case if you are on any of the Custom ROM firmware or on the beta firmwares, then you won’t be getting this OTA update and you will have to either roll back your current firmware to the earlier build which was official or you need to update IMM76K update manually as mentioned below.

Manual Update of IMM76K in Galaxy Nexus:

  • Download Galaxy Nexus Tool Kit along with the IMM76K Update Zip File from here to your computer. Once downloaded, connect your device to the computer and place the update zip file in your Galaxy nexus.
  • Enter your Galaxy Nexus in the fast boot mode by pressing the Volume Up + Volume Down keys and then simultaneously press the power button to turn ON the device in the fastboot mode.
  • Extract and open the toolkit in your computer. Connect your phone to the computer with the help of original USB cable and enter the appropriate option on which firmware your device is ON, like 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 or in 4.0.4 update.
  • After entering the appropriate option, select the option of “9” and press enter to follow the on screen instructions. After this, press “1” and hit enter to process the command.
  • Now in your phone’s recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” and then followed by which choose the option of “apply sd card/update.zip” > Yes > Install Zip from sd card.
  • After confirming, the update process will commence and it will take around 4 – 5 minutes for applying this update.
  • Once the device is installed with the ICS 4.0.4 IMM76K update, the device will be landing back to the recovery mode screen where you need to select “reboot system now”.

Note: Just in case if the device refuses to start up or gets into the boot loop mode, you then need to re insert the battery and follow all the instructions mentioned above.
