Android One, Google’s partnership with Micromax, Karbonn and Spice might not have got the response which Google was anticipating all thanks to the multiple reasons and XiaoMi, users who have purchased these smartphones can now install the Lollipop Android 5.0 OS. While the Official update will only be available around mid of December, till then you can apply this firmware update in your Android One Device. The popular Cyanogen Mod team has come up with an update of Android Lollipop 5.0 and is pretty much stable.

Quick Pre Requisites:
- Download the “Root Checker” app from Google PLAY Store to check on whether the device is rooted or not. Once rooted, you need to proceed for the next steps. Your Android one device should be rooted before applying this firmware update.
- Create a backup of all the data present in your device manually with the help of below mentioned steps and not with the KIES or any other tools.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Make sure that your device has 50% battery life and enable USB Debugging Mode which can be enabled from the Settings.

Procedure to Update Lollipop 5.0 Update in Android One smartphones:
- Download the Cyanogen Mod Update along with the Google Apps package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, you now need to place these two zip files in your device.
- Make sure that you have installed the Phillz recovery in your device as it is giving some issues in the stock recovery or the plain CWM recovery.
- In recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” and then choose the zip file of Firmware Zip Package which you have placed in your phone and then the Google Apps Package. Now, once the firmware is updated, select “Go Back” and select “reboot system now”.
- Please note that it might take 3 -4 minutes for applying the update. Once the update is applied and once you see the home screen in your device, you can disconnect the device from computer.
Note: If at all your Android One smartphone gets in the boot loop mode, then you need to turn off the device and then reapply the update from the start. To turn off you can reinsert the battery or say you can long press the power button.
