India’s smartphone vendor Micromax is planning to launch a flagship smartphone. It has sent out media invites for the launch of a flagship smartphone tomorrow in New Delhi, India. The invite image carries cryptic text – “Mystery prisoner found locked in. Can he escape his destiny?.”
According to the latest report, the launch would be of a “new, much bigger flagship device.” The report also quotes a company representative saying that Micromax would unveil a new flagship device that would be “beyond Canvas 5 smartphone,” hinting at a completely new series of phone.
Micromax has recently launched the all-new Canvas Hue 2 in India for Rs 17,999. The smartphone is a successor to the Canvas Hue which was launched earlier this year in January. The smartphone sports a 5-inch AMOLED HD display with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz octa core processor and 2GB RAM. The device also gets an 13MP auto focus rear camera with Sony sensor and a 5MP front-facing camera.
Recently it was also reported that Chinese biggest e-commerce company Alibaba Group is in talks with Micromax to buy a stake of 20% of value $1.2 billion at the valuation of $6 billion. Micromax is the second largest smartphone maker in the country only next to Samsung. It has 18% of market share in the Indian smartphone market. It investors include TA Associates, Sequoia Capital, Madison India Capital and Sandstone Capital.
