Several DROID Turbo users have reported that they’ve been invited by Motorola to take part in “an early preview of a new software release.” It means the DROID Turbo has a new update coming, but the invite doesn’t mention Android 5.1 Lollipop explicitly.
Few days back, mobile carrier Verizon launched an Android Lollipop 5.1 simulator for the Motorola Droid Turbo on their website. The simulator features an online version of the Droid Turbo handset, running on the latest Android Lollipop v.5.1 operating system. The Droid Turbo in the simulator offers all the core features of Android Lollipop, as well as additional features added by Verizon.
Earlier: David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management at Motorola, took to Google+ recently to pass on some information regarding the future update to Android 5.1 for the Verizon’s DROID Turbo. According to the post, the Android 5.1 update is “still in the lab test cycle,” but then went ahead and added that things are “looking good” up until this point. He added that no launch date for the update has been decided on.
The DROID Turbo, which was launched back in October and is still running Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. Motorola announced a while ago that the DROID Turbo won’t be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop like any other of its smartphones received. Instead, the handset maker confirmed the DROID Turbo will be upgraded directly to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

According to the latest report, Motorola’s Droid Turbo handsets in the US, will receive Android 5.1 OTA updates beginning from 10 June 2015. David Ruddock from Android Police tweeted that one of his sources has given him a projected release date of the Droid Turbo’s Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
The update will have the build number of 23.11.23. It will include all of the features from both Android 5.0 and Android 5.1 including Lock Screen notifications, Material Design, the new Recent Apps page, two-finger Quick Settings menu from any page, battery saver mode using Project Volta, 64-bit ART compiler that opens apps faster, new security features and more.

An engineer at Motorola has confirmed on a Google+ post that the Droid Turbo will be updated straight to Android 5.1, skipping ahead to the latest version of Android Lollipop.
“Droid Turbo is going to be updated to 5.1 … The bug free part is a complete invention on their part… a complex software running on a complex hardware, with thousands of different environment conditions and thousands of usage variations, currently, it’s nearly impossible to make it bug free” Luciano Carvalho from Motorola Mobility.

Motorola on Wednesday launched the Moto Maxx smartphone, the global variant of the recently-launched Droid Turbo as expected.The Company has announced that the Moto Maxx will be available starting Wednesday in Brazil from the company’s online store (Motorola.com) and that the smartphone will reach Mexico by mid-November. Motorola has also confirmed that the smartphone will reach other Latin American countries soon. It has been priced at BRL 2,199 (approximately Rs. 54,000) for the 64GB model.

Earlier today, the photos of DROID Turbo’s look alike phone without the Verizon branding were posted to Google+. As can be seen in the photos, the temporary screen protector film lists the phone as the “Moto Maxx”. The name of the smartphone is also mentioned in the about page of the phone. The specifications such as processor, 5.2-inch QHD screen, 21MP camera, and 3900mAh battery is same as the DROID Turbo.
The photos were posted by a person named Guilherme Henrique, listed as a resident of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His caption, translated from Portuguese to English, reads “Testing the monster.” The photos were immediately removed. Motorola has sent out invites to the tech press in Brazil, for the launch event on November 5th. It looks like Motorola will reveal the Turbo Maxx at the event.

Motorola unveiled the new Droid Turbo smartphone for carrier partner Verizon in America on Tuesday. Now, it looks like Motorola will reveal a global version of the Droid Turbo. According to a Portuguese website, Motorola is set to launch the global version of the phone in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company has started sending out invites to the tech press in Brazil, for the launch event on November 5th.
It is rumoured that Motorola will change the name of the phone to Motorola Maxx since Droid trademark is registered to Lucasfilm, which has licensed it to Verizon and not Motorola. There is no word on which colour variants the phone will be available.

Update: Motorola on Tuesday announced Droid Turbo, its latest Android phone. The phone is exclusively for the US market at the moment, and we will not see it on any Indian e-retail websites anytime soon.
It has a 5.2 (1440×2560 pixels) AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartphone is powered by a 2.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. It runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) out of the box. Motorola and Verizon promise a guaranteed upgrade to Lollipop at some point after release. It has 3GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage and packs a 3900mAh battery with up to 48 of battery life with mixed use. Motorola claims charging the phone with Motorola Turbo Charger offers eight hours of power in a quick 15 minutes.
Droid Turbo sports a 21-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, 4K video recording and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Droid Turbo has MinuteCast which predicts when it will rain, snow or hail based on your exact street address for the next two hours. The smartphone comes in Special edition black Ballistic Nylon with a lightweight, high-strength aluminum design, Metallic Red, Metallic Black color variants have metalized glass fiber with a high-strength aluminum and Dupont Kevlar back cover. The Motorola Droid Turbo supports 4G LTE with LTE Cat 4, apart from CDMA, EVDO Rev A, GSM/ UMTS/ HSPA+ (depending on the plan chosen).
The device will be available two days after announcement — that’s Thursday, October 30th. You’ll be able to choose from a 32GB option for $200 on a two-year agreement or get 64GB of storage for just $50 more. The former can have in Metallic Black, Metallic Red or a new premium ballistic nylon material Motorola is using. Those opting for the $250 version will only have the option of going with ballistic nylon.

Some new pictures of the Droid Turbo have been leaked online, ahead of its official announcement on 28th October. The latest Droid Turbo leak comes courtesy of Moto Firmware. It has published images of all-black Droid Turbo with full retail packaging. Inside the box is a new Motorola Turbo Charger, which is set to be included with every device as standard.
Moto Firmware also claimed through its tweet that the Droid Turbo will be available from stores and retailers two days after Verizon announces it on October 28th. There has been no official confirmation from Verizon regarding this as yet.

Update: Evan Blass (@evleaks) has posted a press image (available through Verizon’s web code) that provides a good look at front of the device that was never shown in previous leaked images.
In line with past leaks, the new image showcases the device in black and red color scheme. The photo ѕhοws the device in both colours (red and black), and feature different texture on the back. It can be seen in the pics that the Droid Turbo will carry a design language that is similar to the new Moto X with some minor changes. Though Droid Turbo will come with capacitive keys instead of an on-screen navigation bar like on the Moto X.
