Seems that Samsung isn’t leaving any category behind while trying to keep itself ahead in the race of technology, as we are now seeing them working on the wearable device – Sports glasses which are a possible response to the smart Google Glass which was introduced quite some time back, and which has changed the way glasses can be used, more than just for viewing or looking cool.
Dubbed as Galaxy Glass (the name Galaxy which made Samsung famous, for the Android devices lineup), these smart glasses are said to be making a debut during the IFA show in Berlin this year. These would be the internet connected glasses using which one would be able to play music, make and receive phone calls through the earphones which are built into the frame of the glass, and this would enable the hands-free control of the smartphone with the main functions possible through the glass.
“The reason is simple. The market potential for smart glass is huge. It will be used in trucks, cars and has a greater impact on related industries such as glass- and coatings-makers,” said an official at Samsung Electronics. Meanwhile a Google’s local parts supplier told that the Glass from Google would be available officially to the public in the second half of the year, as Google is in the final stage of the development after receiving the feedback from the 2000 testers who are trying the glasses right now.
“It will be interesting to see which companies get better stakes in the race for smart glasses. Players definitely want to enjoy a ‘first-mover’ advantage in this new and highly lucrative market,” according to the official.
With regards to the Galaxy Glass, Samsung has already registered a patent in Korea, according to Korea Intellectual Property Office. Samsung Electronics would be collaborating with Samsung Display to source the displays for these glasses.
Samsung did hurry in making the early wearable device, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and they might be doing that with the Galaxy Glass too, but when there is something new in the world of technology, being the first would always hold an advantage, and Samsung doesn’t want to miss out with the opportunity.
