Update Sep 28: The earlier rumoured VR based smartphones Galaxy O5 and Galaxy O7 have received a new naming. The Galaxy O5 is named as Galaxy Grand On, and the Galaxy O7 is named as Galaxy Mega On. Recently, the Galaxy Mega On has been spotted on TENAA with a model number SM-G6000. It comes with the mid-range specifications and there is no information on pricing and availability of the device.
Coming to its specifications, the Galaxy Mega On flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and will come powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, we expect it to be 64-bit Snapdragon 412 processor. It has 1GB RAM and 8GB onboard storage along with a microSD card slot for storage expansion upto 128GB.
It sports a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front-facing camera. The devices offers 4G LTE connectivity and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based TouchWiz UI. The device measures 151.8 x 77.5 x 8.2 mm and weighs 172 grams.
Earlier Aug 22: Samsung is gearing up for the launch of their latest ‘Galaxy O’ series of smartphones. It will join their wide list of Galaxy A, Galaxy E, Galaxy S, Galaxy J lineup of smartphones. Samsung is currently working on two new devices called Galaxy O5, and O7 referred initially as SM-G550 and SM-G600 respectively.
The devices under the Galaxy O series will be Virtual Reality based smartphones that will be launched in partnership with Oculus Rift. Last year, both these companies have launched VR headset alongside the Galaxy S6 smartphone.
The Galaxy O series smartphones are expected to launch at Oculus Connect2 event scheduled in Hollywood from September 23-25. It will be interesting to see if Samsung comes big with ‘Galaxy O’ series based on virtual reality.
Coming to the Samsung smartphones portfolio, currently the Galaxy E series phones are available at an affordable price when compared to the A series. Both smartphones sports almost similar specifications, but the latter sports a metal build body.The J series smartphones are more focused on providing best selfie-centric experience with the best front camera sensors coupled with front LED flash. While Z devices run on the company’s own Tizen OS that are available in few Asian countries. Apart from this there are various other handsets available in the Samsung’s kitty in other series.
It is still in question the kind of customers Samsung will target with the ‘Galaxy O.’ It just might become the next big thing from Samsung that they may unveil in IFA 2015. The latest rumors also suggest that the Galaxy O series might be a VR headset, but the we expect it to be a smartphone that provides better experience with the Virtual Reality headsets by including few specific and unique features.
