Samsung Galaxy Pro Vs Motorola Fire Mobile Comparison

If you are looking for some good middle end phones that will help you stay connected and if you’re the kind of person who types a lot, you surely should consider Android devices with QWERTY Keyboards on them. The Galaxy Pro series from Samsung have made good sales while the Motorola Fire series has a couple of phones on them too. While both of them come with the latest version of Android Gingerbread on them along with a physical keyboard, we take a look at the comparison here between the Motorola Fire XT311 and Galaxy Pro B7510 phones which fall in the same price bracket:

Form Factor

The Galaxy Pro from Samsung can be held in the hand more easily and comes with a smaller overall build to it compared to the Fire from Motorola which is slightly longer in dimensions, thus it might pop out of smaller hands and little awkward to hold. The Fire XT311, at 116.5 x 58 x 13.5 mm is longer than the Galaxy Pro, which is at 108.6 x 66.7 x 10.7 mm. The Galaxy Pro weighs just 103 grams while the Moto Fire is 110g in weight, slightly higher.

The keyboard design on the Moto Fire is more ergonomic, with a curved shape to it, thus making it easier to hold and type as the curves fit well in the palms.

The Galaxy Pro B7510 and Motorola Fire XT311 come with a 2.8 inch TFT Capacitive display with a pixel density of 143ppi on both of them. The Galaxy Pro B7510 has a screen resolution of 320 x 240 pixels while the Motorola Fire has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

Both the phones have two touch sensitive below the display along with a physical button and support Multi-touch. There is an accelerometer and proximity sensor on both the cellphones as well.

Both the cellphones have a 3.2MP in the rear and record video at 480p. The Galaxy Pro records video at QVGA at 30fps while the Fire records at 24fps. Also, for still shots using the camera on the cellphone, 2048×1536 pixels is the maximum resolution of photos on both the devices at 3.2MP mode. The Galaxy Pro notably has autofocus while the Fire does not.

The Galaxy Pro has 512MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot that is expandable up to 32GB while the Motorola Fire also has similar memory specifications and is extendable upto 32GB.

The Galaxy Pro has GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 bands and HSDPA 900/2100 bands which gives maximum speeds upto 7.2Mbps on HSDPA while the Motorola Fire XT311 has similar bands on HSDPA as well and has a support of upto 7.2 on HSDPA and 384kbps on HSUPA . Wi-fi bands are the same on both the phones supporting the latest band of Wi-Fi, the 802.11n and 802.11b/g as well. GPS is available on both the phones and Bluetooth is 3.0 enabled on the Galaxy Pro while the Motorola Fire has only Bluetooth 2.1 and comes with A2DP support on both. EDR on Bluetooth is supported only on the Moto Fire, the Galaxy Pro does not have it.

Both the cellphones have FM Radio on them as well.

Operating System and UI:

Samsung Galaxy Pro has a older version of Android, 2.3 with Samsung’s User Interface, Touchwiz 3  while the Motorola Fire comes with the latest 2.3 Gingerbread on it.

Looking at it from the User Experience and from a normal man’s perspective, both the phones have a similar User Interface to operate through it and Samsung has optimized the User Interface for the QWERTY enabled Pro devices by making a couple of gestures and movements inside the Android experience integrated with the keyboard and touch controls as well while the Moto Blur UI brings quite a few changes to the menu style and iconography of Android throughout the device.

Battery and Processor

The Galaxy Pro has a 1350mAh battery while the Motorola Fire has a 1420mAh battery. The Motorola Fire, on 2G has a talktime of  upto 9 h 16 min (2G) and 720hours of standby time and  Upto 8 h of talktime on 3G. While the Galaxy Pro has 610 hours of standby time on 2G and 430hours of standby time on 3G with a talktime of 11hours of 2G and 6 hours on 3G.

The Motorola Fire XT311 has a 600 MHz ARM 11 processor backed by a Adreno 200 GPU and Qualcomm MSM7227-1 chipset while the Galaxy Pro from Samsung has a better processor, at 800Mhz, which might cause processes to run faster, with more ability to multi-task.

The Galaxy Pro series has been quite a good selling one, considering that many wouldn’t want to miss out on their QWERTY keyboards and at the same time, catch a sense of Android and try out some nice touchscreen apps on them while the Motorola Fire has a chic factor to it and is good on external looks and has a better processor and improved User Interface. While the Galaxy Pro is now available for very cheap prices, the Motorola Fire will still be a wiser choice if you are looking for a really good Android smartphone which will last for a long time, else if you want to go for a quick purchase with some limited money, the Galaxy Pro is a good pick.
