Quick Pre Requisites:
- Backup all the data present in your device as there is a possibility that the data may get lost or corrupted, the only way you can backup the data is by following the below steps.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log – Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- Ensure that the device is left with the charge of 60% so as to ensure that the phone doesn’t get turned Off in the middle of firmware update.
Lets head to the procedure to apply this firmware update.
Procedure to Update Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY with ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware:
- Before proceeding, you need to first ensure that the Xperia PLAY is Boot loader Unlocked and Rooted.
- Download ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware in your computer and then you need to connect your phone to the computer with the help of original USB cable which you got at the time of purchase.
- Now, copy the downloaded ICS file in your phone and remove the connected USB cable and enable the USB debugging in your phone from the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”. The USB Debugging option should be ticked. USB Debugging Mode can only be enabled once you disconnect the phone from computer.
- After this, you need to turn off your phone to enter the device in the recovery mode.Turn Off your phone to do the same.
- Press the Power button and while the device is rebooted, press the Volume Rockers a few times to boot into the Recovery. Once the device boots into the Recovery, use the side Volume Rocker to move around, & the Power button to select the option.
- In the recovery mode, select “install zip from sd card” > “choose zip from sd card” and then choose the ICS Android 4.0.3 Firmware Zip file which you have placed in your phone. It will take around 10 minutes for the whole process of update to get completed. Once the update process is done, the device will be landing up in the recovery mode. Now, select “++++ Go Back ++++” > “reboot system now” so that the device is re booted successfully.
Tip: Restore all the data which you have taken the backup before and also ensure that you have also restored the APN settings which are responsible for accessing the internet. If the device enters in the boot loop mode then you need to again apply the firmware by following the above steps.
