Sony SmartPhones in India get ICS Android 4.0 Upgrade – Procedure

So after a drought of Android 4.0 update in the first quarter of 2012, its raining updates to many of the smartphones not only with Samsung devices. After Samsung Galaxy S II update it’s the Sony to make their promises comes true. Today, Sony announced on their Facebook Page that they have started rolling out Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update to their most eagerly awaited smartphones.

The update is for Xperia Arc, Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray smartphones for consumers in India. This update for above three devices was made available in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and other European countries earlier this month. This update was scheduled for release in the mid March but it has finally arrived after much delay.

Sony’s other qualified device for Android 4.0 ICS pack are Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman is scheduled for release in June but its rescheduled in late Q2 2012.

This Android 4.0 upgrade comes with the following advantages –

  • Face unlock feature
  • Detailed statistics of the data consumption
  • Quick response for incoming calls
  • Group Calendar to manage your time in a better way
  • Intuitive user interface

This upgrade is available is available for free and it can be downloaded using the Sony PC Companion tool for Windows and Sony Bridge for Mac. For detailed instructions check out Sony Page. Once you have downloaded the PC companion, connect your phone to the PC and head to updates now to connect your phone and get this update in the easiest way possible. The Over the Air update would be soon made available but as of now its possible via PC Companion tool only.
