Just a week after Sony had announced two excellent devices, the Xperia Z1s and the Xperia Z1 Compact, the company has now revealed two more devices under the Xperia branding. This time, it is not a 5-inch or the 6.4-inch ones, but something in between the both – Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, which is an Android phablet having a 6-inch 720p Triluminos display and some good specifications under the hood. The T2 Ultra is coming in two versions – Single SIM and the Dual SIM.
Having the Triluminos display for mobile with the X-Reality picture engine, the Xperia T2 Ultra has got the internal powering by 1.4 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and that is added up by 1GB RAM and Adreno 305 GPU. There is an internal storage of 8GB and Sony has provided a MicroSD card slot for the storage expansion possible to 32GB with the MicroSD card.
The 6-inch phablet would be running the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS, and there are two cameras – 13-megapixel rear camera with the Sony Exmor ES sensor, an LED flash and the 1080p Full HD video recording. On the front side, there is a 1.1-megapixel camera with the Sony Exmor R sensor. The device is just 7.65mm thick, and that is because of the large screen, under which the 3000 mAh battery is packed in. Connectivity wise, there are two options – 3G and 4G LTE. Based on these, the chipset differs, as the LTE version has the MSM8928 chipset, while the 3G version has the MSM8228 chipset.
The other connectivity options included are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with the APT-X, GPS and NFC. The battery saving stamina mode is also provided in the OS, and it is the same interface that is seen in the recent Xperia devices. The bezel is narrowed down, giving the 73.6% screen to body ratio. The users can set both the SIM cards independently with the custom ring tones, and the one-touch switching between the two SIMs and both the cards would be active on the same time.
The Xperia T2 Ultra and the Dual is going to target China, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific according to Sony. The color options would be Black, White and Purple, and Sony hasn’t given a word about the pricing and availability date.
